This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Füssen.

Guess what? Füssen is also named and spelled Fussen - It is the same destination. Goodbye confusion.

Füssen is the highest town in Bavaria, Germany, located five kilometres north of the Austrian border on the banks of the Lech River. The town is known for St. Mang's Abbey and its basilica, which is a home to the oldest fresco in Germany. But there is one thing for which Füssen and the surrounding region are even more famous --its numerous castles. The late Gothic Hohes Schloss or High Castle lies right in the old town center, while others are located nearby and easily reachable by buses. Just a couple of kilometres south-east of the town lies the beautiful Hohenschwangau Castle, the childhood residence of King Ludvig II of Bavaria, and across from it you will find his even more famous and absolutely stunning Neuschwanstein Castle, which was opened for the public shortly after his death. This fairy-tale like castle -- which was the inspiration for the castles in some Disney parks -- is absolutely magnificent, but keep in mind it can only be visited within a guided tour and that taking pictures of the interior is prohibited. It is also worth mentioning that some of the scenes from the famous World War II film "The Great Escape" were filmed in and around Füssen.

While the town of Füssen may be small, there are some absolutely amazing attractions to check out, plus plenty of opportunities for hiking and mountain biking. You also probably won't have much problems getting a Füssen hostel for your sleeping accommodation, as there are a couple of pretty good options available and a lot of tourists stop just to visit the mentioned castles without staying overnight.
