"Phantom Ranch is the ultimate experience in visiting the Grand Canyon. The hostel is located at the bottom of Grand Canyon just next to the Colorado River and allows you to sleep there to recuperate your strength before hiking back to the rift -- you don't want to hike the Grand Canyon up and down in the same day. It is recommended to make reservations at least three months in advance for the summer months. We called two months in advance and were lucky to get one night during two weeks of vacation.
