Get to know Canela (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Canela.

Neighbor to the sophisticated city of Gramado, Canela (which means "cinnamon" in Spanish and Portuguese) possesses its own attributes to make you fall in love with the city. Located in the Serra Gaucha, Canela is a small town with some hostel options, featuring a few parks and nature reserves where you can get in touch with nature. At Caracol Park, you can make a track that leaves you at the foot of a beautiful waterfall, Cascata do Caracol. Although it is not possible to enter the waterfall, the sight of the place is worth all the effort undertaken at the track.

Besides this there is also the attraction Roller Coaster at Alpen Park. This is the largest steel roller coaster in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. There is a small cost to do the tour, but it's very worthwhile, especially for the vision that this tour offers you. Another great tour is the sled in the same park, where you control the speed of your ride, which makes you enjoy all the scenery at your own pace. It's an unforgettable experience. One of the main attractions of the city lies in the central town square -- The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, also known as Cathedral of Stone, is open for visits.

The city of Canela is a great option for those looking to save on hostels or food. There are wonderful options for Canela hostels and guesthouses, most with colonial breakfast included. In addition, there are many restaurants and cafes around the city with options for all tastes. In addition, the shopping in this town can be quite advantageous, since the prices are cheaper than in the neighboring town. There are several options for leather with many shops; it's worth knowing, even if you're not planning on buying anything.
