is a small village with 52 pubs!
I have just been able to determine that
is the ancestral home of our family, with the head being Nathan Capron Davis. My mother who is deceased tried to determine this for years, but never succeeded. I certainly would plan on visiting the area to make her wish come true.
on my second Irish visit in 1998. I now plan another visit in 2005 with my wife and another couple.
was the birth place of my grandfather, Daniel Harrington. I have visited the family farm a few times about ten years ago. My wife and I fell in love with the place. I would love to retire there but for the paucity of medical facilities.
I lived in
for three months and I have to say that it's a beautiful place. The town is just charming.
's a good base for the Ring of Kerry, however it is the hugest tourist trap I've ever seen. Worse then Disneyworld. I suggest you visit any small town within the country and rub elbows with the farmers to experience the "real" Ireland.
This is a great city -- small, so it is easy to explore on foot. I rang the Shandon Bells (nice thing to do -- hear your tune played out over the city!). The English Market is cool to wander in and buy lunch -- I ate it in the Peace Park across the way. I like the cafe in the Crawford Art Gallery too, but my best cup of coffee was in
Coffee Roasters on Bridge Street. It's excellent if made by the owners. The Bank of the Lee walk by the river takes you to the park or the university (the Glucksman Gallery there is cool). You have to bounce on the Shakey Bridge near the Park too!
on my honeymoon and it is a fantastic place - real magic!!
is a beautiful area by the beach, but unfortunatly I find it a little dirty sometimes. Overall I think it's a lovely town and most of the people are sweet and kind.
There are no hostels in
. The city is full of refugees and the government have crammed them in to the tourist hostels. It's disgusting. The refugees are there because the government takes money to accept them in and then virtually imprisons them allowing no opportunities to work or integrate. I was shocked by all I saw and experienced in Limerick.
is a perfect spot to spend a few days. We stayed three and that was perfect. We visited the Cliffs of Moher and drove to the beach at Lahinch twice. Lisdoonvarna was close to the sites but you don't have to deal with the hassle of Lahinch. This was our third trip to Ireland and our first to Lisdoonvarna but it won't be our last!
I have not only visited
but I've lived there for a year. And all I can say is: It's a great city! Yes, it is a bit more expensive than other European metropolitan areas, but at the same time you won't find nicer people, more fun and better accommodation anywhere else in the world. The Irish are nice folks; friendly, helpful and easy to talk to. The crime rate isn't higher as in Berlin or in London; just use your common sense and you'll be fine. And the art collections belong to the best preserved exhibitions on the planet. They may not be large, but they are incredibly valuable for any connoisseur. Plan ahead, make sure to have list of places to go, things to do and landmarks to visit and it will be a fantastic trip!
I loved it! I want to come back as soon as I can. I loved the people there. Everyone was extremely nice and kind. I would recommend
to ANYONE who is thinking about going! :)
is great, a small town 20 minutes from the big town with shopping and a 10 minute walk along the sea to a small beach. Library, pubs, nightlife, good fast food and plenty of possibillities for a traditional Irish music session in the area. Don't miss the village Dalkey with nice pubs and the brilliant view from Killiney Hill!
. It is very cute. A lovely, calm, and quiet town.
… Cahersiveen is a town about half way around the "Ring of Kerry", a beautiful and very scenic drive at the foot of Benetee mountain, on the river Fertha overlooking Valentia Harbour.
… It is a beautiful and historic town. Full of character and interesting buildings. I was there in the summer.
… This place is magical. Just enough civilization to get by, and so much to explore either on foot or by bike.
… This is one of the great scenic locations in Ireland - and thats saying something. Don't miss the subtropical gardens on the Island in the Bay.
… Just a quick couple of comments. GO TO THE MUSIC STORE. It's really cute, and it serves GREAT chocolate cake with whipped cream. Bring cash, because there is no ATM in town, and the grocery store does not accept credit cards.
