Innisfail is a good place for a stop over and to earn some cash on the fruit picking but hard ass work...
Visited Isla Fraser in March 2008 with the Cool Dingo Tours. They are a brilliant company to go with. I was traveling on my own but was made comfortable and made lots of friends. Fraser Island is beautiful and is well worth a visit.
The experiences I had in Laidley are amazing. I wouldn't miss a day!
Mackay is a safe town to walk and explore. Non-touristy and friendly locals.
I think Airlie Beach is a wonderful place to relax and it has the most beautiful scenery.
Brisbane is a fantastic city! We loved our stay here. Brisbane was fabulous - South Bank (wow!) the river (wow) and great feel for a city. We saw some great AFl with the Brisbane Lions too!
I stayed in Tully for two and a half months as work was plentiful. If you want work you don't have to go through a hostel, just get up bright and early, say 5:30 am, and stand at the post office junction. Ask the farmers if they need help as no qualifications are ever asked. Tully and its environs have a lot to offer and I must say I had the best two and a half months ever.
For the three days I was in Cairns I realized it's truly beautiful. I suggest that that everyone go snorkeling and/or scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef.
Cardwell is the most beautiful place I may have ever been on Earth! The main street has mountians on one side and a simple, untouched beach on the other! It is in "croc country", so no swimming, but the view is enough to fall in love with Cardwell!! There are cute cafes and wonderful locals. The local Catholic Church is still one of my favorites! Hitchinbrook Island is also another natural beauty in Cardwell. You can take a boat over on Sundays for half price. All in all, Cardwell is a must visit!
We enjoyed Great Keppel Island, wonderfull atmosphere, beautyful sea and white beaches, good to relax your mind with yoga and your body with some trackers or snorkeling or kayaking. The best in Australia in my opinion.
Maroochydore is a great place to do fruit picking as it is so close to the beach, has lovely weather, plenty of charity shops, and great drinking holes!
Bowen is one of my favourite spots in Oz. My tip is to mingle with the locals and they will show you the best time ever coz they are the friendliest bunch of Ozzies I ever met.
I have fantastic memories of Bundaberg and would go back. I loved the hillbilly feel of the town. Beats the cities any day. Work is hard but well worth the experience.
Mission Beach is a great little beach town. Its away from the hussle and bussle of other tourist areas so one can actually enjoy the place they are at.
I've stayed in Coolangatta twice, and really like the area.
Rainbox Beach was just too lovely to describe with any justice. Anybody who wants a little paradise should definitely go to Rainbow Beach.
Broadbeach is great, its only minutes to Surfers and has some great things to do as it is on the beach with its surf clubs. And the casino is always great with Thursday night -- cheap drinks in the casino's Prince Albert Bar. It's where a lot of the young loacals go.
I had a brilliant time in Townsville. It's a place where you can go to get a real feel of Ozy life as there isn't a huge backpacker appeal. It's just a really nice town and I look forward to going back. Another bonus is that it is a base for the Oz army so there were plenty of fit young men around. This was way back in 2000 so hope not too much has changed!
Biloela was a great party town, small but good. Grew up there.
Coolum Beach … It's an awesome place -- we are going back in a week!
