HI - Annecy Hostel

This was a very nice place. The one exception is the location. Man, you will get tired of that damn hike up and down and down and up and AHH! But you can pretty much eat and drink whatever you want then, because there is no way you'll be putting on any extra kgs/pounds with that hill to trudge up twice a day. Good luck getting the "taxi" from the train station to this place. I waited for over an hour, called the number that was listed on the stand, and finally a very nice Annecy resident drew out a map and I hiked it. It was probably about a 30-minute walk — honestly, not the end of the world. I figured it would be more like two hours from the way it sounded. Maybe you will find a magical Annecy resident to give you directions from the train station. They certainly can NOT give you directions over the phone from hostel — at least they wouldn't to me! It would probably take about a half-hour. Go left at the stream, count 50 paces then walk past the church, scale your way up this alley and blah blah blah — it's kind of complicated I guess. Re the actual hostel: it was very cool. It has a nice little bar downstairs with cheap wine and some chairs and couches, with music and a patio with a view. They also have dinners here, which you will want because it's too far down the damn hill to get dinner yourself (The dinner here isn't anything to rave about. It's hot and will fill you up. That's about it.)

Annecy's HI had to be one of the best that I've seen, such a nice place to be. I'm pretty sure you can get a bus from the station to near to the hostel, but take note, these do not run on Sundays!! An evening meal there was very cheap, the cheapest we saw, at about 3 euros for a lasagna and salad--bargain!! Wine was only 90 cents a glass!!

This hostel was fabulous. Lots of fun people to meet and a beautiful location. It's a steep hike up the hill but the place makes up for it. Very clean and the free breakfast was really good. I recommend this hostel to anyone in the area!!

This is a great hostel, but beware the steep walk up the hill from the bus stop. If you are arriving by train I would advise you to get a taxi from the train station to this hostel. It was very clean and comfortable, with gorgeous views and a great price. The staff are friendly and I met some nice people too. Go there!
