A small and mostly unremarkable hostel. It has a small sitting area and a cafe. It doesn't have the fun and exciting youthful vibe that most Berlin hostels have. Actually it has more of the look and feel of a hotel. But it might be a good choice if you're looking for a quiet and place just to get some sleep.

Poor Rather expensive for the comfort (no sanitary fittings in the rooms!), the smell of cigarette smoke all over the hostel, heating turned off after we left the windows slightly opened to ventilate the rooms, staff smoking weed in the breakfast room during the night.

We stayed at this hostel for a couple of days in September 2006 and thought it was great. It is quiet, interesting, and in fact, quite charming in an old fashioned way. The rooms are economical and spartan and the view of the backyard is very calming. Our room was very comfortable and really clean and so were the restrooms. The only trouble -- there are no lifts! So you have to haul yourself up (we went four floors) and your luggage. The cafe outside is nice with delicious food. We even found an Indian restaurant right across the street! It's close to the Metro station and seems like a safe neighborhood. We came back charmed and plan to go back again next summer. For anyone planning to stay there, check out the small Italian pizza place across the Metro station.

I love this hostel, and have been back to stay there again since my initial stay. Its extremely chilled and in an amazing building -- the staff are helpful and it's in a great area of Berlin. It's got a much more mature feel to it than other Berlin hostels like the Generator, and is the perfect place to come back to after a crazy night out as you can just crash right out without the noisiness of the larger hostels.

I thought I'd add a review of Die Fabrik as I don't think the official review does it justice. If you want to spend the night drinking, singing and dancing, this isn't the place for you, but it is a remarkable hostel. It offers a choice of one-, two-, three-, and four-bed rooms and also dormitories. If you choose a single room Die Fabrik serves very well as a cheap hotel. It's remarkable because it's a cheap hotel which is actually a pleasant and interesting place to stay. A former telephone factory, Die Fabrik has been tastefully converted with many East German factory lamps, clocks, and lockers. The rooms are spartan but clean and the beds are comfortable. Although the menu is somewhat limited, the street-facing cafe serves excellent food for breakfast and lunch. The staff are friendly and helpful and the neighbourhood is pleasant. All in all Die Fabrik is an excellent place to stay if you need to relax on a budget.

I was there at the beginning of October. I really found it comfortable, especially quiet, with a very nice atmosphere. I felt almost at home. I'm sure I'll stay there again when I come back to Berlin after a long journey.

A decent place. It is in a nice neighborhood, but a little far from the city's cultural amenities. It is nice though, not in a real tourist area, and you feel like it is your place. It is very clean. There is a nice cafe in front where I have eaten several times.

My son has stayed at Die Frabrik while in Berlin to do the Improviganza Festivals on a number of occasions, including this year's shows (2004). He says it's a great place. I am happy to know he has a comfortable and warm place to go when he so far away from Canada. I am looking forward to staying there myself in the near future.
