Informe de Hostelz.com
Located on a side-street, with only a tiny plaque outside indicating its existence, and with no sign on its door, this hostel can be very difficult to see. But rest assured, if you do manage to locate it, you will be rewarded with large bright rooms, hotel-quality beds and bathrooms, and a huge closet with key in which to stow your stuff. There are also coin-operated laundry machines in the kitchen, and free internet - one computer - in the unassuming reception area.

The hostel is still new and currently expanding within its building, so it will eventually be able to accomodate a growing number of tired travellers, perhaps at the expense of disturbing a few of the current visitors with the clammer of the renovations.

1 Horrible
After booking a room here for my friend and I, my friend changed his plans more than a month in advance of our stay, so I called to cancel and instead book a single room. I was assured by the staff over the phone that a single room would be available for me when I arrived. However, when I called the day prior to my arrival to confirm my reservation as requested, I was told that my entire reservation had been canceled and that no other rooms were available. Thanks to this, I was forced to spend an entire night in the Madrid airport, and I would never recommend this hostel for anybody! Worst travel experience ever, do not stay here!

5 Great place to stay, I would go again.
My sister and I stayed at the Hostel Luis Velez for about a week in early june of 2007. We stayed in a double room on the second floor. The hostel was a bit hard to find but that was our only problem. It was really cool that they had an elevator it was pretty old but fully functional for the tired traveler. The rooms were really nice and spacious. The cleaning staff came by every day so that was wonderful. The bathrooms were always clean, there were separate mens and womens bathrooms. For a small fee they also offer their laundry machines in case you have to use them. You also get keys, not only for your room but for the outside door and the door to your floor. I thought this was nice so you could come and go and I felt a bit safer. There was also free internet access in the reception of both our floor and the main reception. It was also pretty close by to two metro stations so that was great. The staff was really helpful and really nice. They all spoke english although it did help that we spoke spanish. All in all I would stay there again. The people were great, the hostel was great, and and the price was great too.

1 Nasty
This Hostel was nasty. I stayed there for four days, in a room without air condition. The room was next to the toilet, at first I thought great, but after the first night i hated it, The poop smell got into the room and stunk the sh*t up. And we had to close the windows, but the smell still got in. just think staying in a hostel without air condition with closed windows and poop smell. It was the worst experience ever.

5 Very nice hostel. I stayed there in summer 2004. It seems like an hotel, rather than a hostel! Our room had an en suite bathroom, but also the common bathrooms were very clean. The hostel is really convenient and only a five-minute walk to Plaza Mayor.

4 This is a clean, wee place, near a nice set of streets offering tapas bars and nightlife. It has an interesting elevator from an age gone by, which fits only one person plus backpack, so groups may have to carry their stuff up the stairs, or wait. Internet is free but there's only one computer so you'll probably have to queue. And there are TVs in the rooms.

3 If it wasn't for my last night, this hostel would have received 5 stars. The bathrooms are clean (and apparently empty if you're male), the location is excellent, the owners are helpful (so long as you speak Spanish), and the free Internet is a definite plus. However, having been bitten half to death by a million and one bed bugs after having slept/passed out on top of the bed covers (a lesson to all perhaps, but a little harsh, surely), my reminiscences of the place are no longer as sweet as they may once have been. And another thing, the safe steals your cash — it's not a returnable 1 euro, but a fee of 1 euro for each time you close the damn thing. 5 This hostel was WONDERFUL. I loved the hard wood floors, and how clean the room and bathrooms were. They even supplied clean towels with soap and shampoo for us. It was a little hard to find, but the picture on this website help a little bit. I loved it, and plan on staying there again soon.
