5   Great Location It had a great location, great price, clean, very charming atmosphere; the restaurant next door was one of my favorites in the world, built over a fourth-century Byzantine Palace with windowed floor.  , age 32, USA ()
2   Overrated I arrived at Istanbul Hostel expecting a lot after reading various reviews online. I was rather disappointed. I think part of my disappointment comes from it being the slow time of year -- the hostel isn't exactly full of travelers! But, the main dorm room is located directly next to both the reception desk and the neighboring travel agency -- not exactly a quiet (or smoke free) place to sleep. I found the staff to be very unfriendly and the breakfast bad even by Turkish standards. Needless to say, I won't be staying here again while in Istanbul.  , USA ()
1   Not For Solo Female Travelers The hostel itself isn't bad. It's located in a central area, and is right next to all the tourist attractions. The rooms are moderately clean, though the faux wood, styrofoam paneling act as heat insulators and make the room unbearably hot in the summer (there are no fans). The rooftop restaurant is overpriced. However, these aspects could be overlooked. The one major, glaring issue is the sleazy male staff. If you're a male or a female traveling with others, this would be a great place to stay. As a solo female traveler, be prepared to be harassed by the male staff. There have been incidents of their inappropriate behavior.  ()
1   Istanbul hostel is a cheat. Istanbul hostel is a cheat. After reading many good reviews I booked this hostel via email and got confirmation. When arrived there, they denied any such email. I requested to check mailbox again, but they said internet is not working. Then they offered a bed in their partner hostel of CEN Sultan. My culture doesn't support a mixed dormitory, but had no option at 9 p.m. in an alien city. The partner hostel had cold, dirty cellar as dorm and toilet with transparent glass door. There I met other two ladies with the same story.  , Singapore ()
4  i live in another city of turkey. i stayed at this hotel whenever i arrive to istanbul. it is great with free internet, downstairs bar, and cheap. it is near to all historical places (aya sophia, sultanahmet, bosphorus, galata tower, and grand bazaar).  ()
2  I feel that this hostel was highly overrated. Reservations were chaotic, there is a bar, but no lounge or kitchen. in fact outside food and beverages are not allowed. very loud and crowded, many beds crammed into each room. The manager was considerate and helpful, but the other staff members were more interested in entertaining friends or surfing the Internet than thinking of customers. There are much better choices, not recommended.  ()
4  The Istanbult Hostel was an excellent place to stay. We stayed with our three children and had a dorm room for six to ourselves. We enjoyed the free Turkish breakfast and internet. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The travel agency associated with the hostel was of great help in planning our onward journey. The hostel is located within walking distance (even for our youngest who is seven years old) to the Aya Sophia, Blue Mosque, and other key tourist attractions.  ()
3  The location close to the major sights is excellent, but very touristic of course. The neighbourhood features lots of competing hostels, hotels, overpriced shops, and restaurants providing the usual kebap. Our dorm room was all right, enough space was provided. Nights were very noisy because a water reservoir right outside the window was filled up regularly in an unevenly loud process that took hours. The hostel is equipped with enough bathrooms, but they could be cleaned more thoroughly. Hair clogging one drain wasn't ever removed during our whole stay of five nights. As this is a place meant for budget minded backpackers, it is quite annoying that drinks brought in by yourself aren't allowed anywhere in the hostel. Both the terrace and the basement are equipped with bars (beer at 5 YTL, not really cheap) but for hanging out with fellow travellers the atmosphere isn't as relaxed as at other hostels with common rooms or kitchens. You will still get to know plenty of people thanks to the popularity of this place. What really drives me off is how they want to make people review the hostel on the day of departure in their presence. Most people do them the favour of giving 100% in every category at the site they used for booking when the manager is looking above their shoulders and they are offered free cake.  ()
