Great hosts
I stayed here in May of 2006. I know when I was there, it was changing ownership.

The Station Guesthouse is a hostel/guesthouse with many rooms. It is a small building with three floor. This year-round hostel has a nonstop party atmosphere. It's on the train tracks, just minutes from the suburban Zugló Railway Station (Pest). From the train station, you can take a direct bus which will take you shortly in the city center. The neighborhood seems quiet, pleasant and safe. It is far from nightlife. There are mixed-sex dorms and private rooms. Rooms are simple but not too small! The Guesthouse has a furnished kitchen, free use. Facilities are only shared (no private!); there are on any floor, so it is easy to find them free and sufficiently clean. The hostel is itself a Budapest attraction for many guests. There is a common room with TV, a free pool table and instruments for playing live music. The hostel is a good place where to stay. It is perfect if you are searching a friendly place. Absolutely avoid it if you are searching a quiet accomodation!

Impossible to leave!
I was supposed to stay two days, i stayed six! Sure, I didn't visit the rest of Hungary like I planned to, but it's really worth it. Be sure you'll miss the checkout every morning though! Backpackers need some great party and some rest too, don't they! The bar is great, the staff is incredible, and be sure to visit the "all-you-can-eat, all-you-can-drink" restaurant that is not so far (ten minutes to go, one hour to come back!). If you like good times and meeting people, the Station guesthouse is the place to go. If you like to sleep, don't go, but you'll miss something! I traveled around eastern europe for a few months and most of my best memories are at the Station Guesthouse!

It was like the bermuda triangle, once you get in you can never leave! well never is a bit of an exaggeration but you get what I mean! was meant to stay two nights but that turned into a week, the best week of my trip! drank solid for a week, twenty-four-hour bar, great people, time of my life! Oh yes but if hygiene is a big must on your list then do not and I repeat do not come here.

I stayed here in June 2006 and had an awesome time -- though it is truly a black hole from which you'll find it almost impossible to leave! yes you will miss that flight back, and no you won't visit that other country on your way home! This is what hosteling is really about -- if it was any different it would be called five-star hotelling, right? Love it or hate it, i'll rate with three stars just because i'm so punk ass alternative.

don't go here! It was dingy and the beds squeaked something shocking! It's the only place I've actually felt I needed to lock my stuff away! I think there is a certain sort of person that would like it. basically all those kind of people who like to consider themselves slightly "alternative" -- it's like a really bad hippy joint. not good! wish i'd never stayed here!

Station Guesthouse is ok! It is easy to find (two red bus stops from the city center); the hostel is cheap and you are free to do everything. The area is safe. But it is also a little dirty.

Great place to stay, man. Experience the boat and bathhouse parties and a whole lot more. Although it's a bit out of the way from the main part of the city, a good tram system sorts that one out. I must go back again sometime. Soon!!

It's not really a hostel; it's an island in its own right. It comes intact with all of the above, plus the option of inspiration for a film script, and kittens. I missed flights home because of it. Assholes with hearts of gold find their home in this twilight zone in the middle of the suburbs.

This hostel is a bit dingy, the beds are loud, the parties are nightly and bleed well into morning, and the staff people are a very "chill" bunch. No, you won't find the Paris-London-Amsterdam crowd here, and if you do, I'm sure they're none-to-pleased. These are the very reasons why I have loved every moment of my three visits here. And it's why I keep coming back. If your travel philosophy centers on flexibility, experience, change, and unpredictability, you will like it here.

Some of the most hardcore travellers stayed here when I visited. They are not your usual spoiled brat types you might find in really busy American tourist hotspots like Berlin or London. The only issue I had with this place were the beds. Either bring earplugs if you want to sleep, or get a bed in the attic where all the mattresses are on the floor and there are no loud bed springs. Be warned though, the attic sleeps approx. 30 people. If you're too prissy to handle those two options, go elsewhere. The area is simply what seems to be an average Budapest suburb with a main street 5 minutes away. All of the staff are really cool. The house feels like a co-ed frat house except it's much cooler.

This was a dirty place which seemed more like a hippie commune. If you like a smoky and dirty atmosphere, go here. The matresses were thinner than a layer of cardboard, and springs were poking out of the bed. The sheets didn't seem to have been washed well. Although they had a pool table, this place was well past its "sell by:" date.

Although a bit clique-y, the staff was cool as sh*t.

The best hostel I have ever stayed in. Wonderful people... you will get stuck there. I was supposed to stay one day and ended up staying one month. Oops! I don't regret it one bit. Once you enter the guesthouse world, you are literally in another world. I love the Station Guesthouse.
