Eden Hill Holiday Hostel is run by a local church group, which means a very well-run hostel with lovely, friendly, helpful staff. Facilities include a large kitchen which includes a oven, microwave, stove tops, and a lot of bench space. There is a large dining area and a small cosy TV room (this closes at midnight).
The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. Each room has a sink in the room but the bathrooms are down the hall. The showers are small -- very small. It's difficult to turn around, and for the ladies it's impossible to shave your legs. Beware of the temperature -- the showers are quite hot, although there is no hot water between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., so plan accordingly.
Out the back, behind the kitchen lives a gorgeous black dog -- beware as she will lick you death, and she just loves to play catch with her ball. She will bring it you again and again and again. Whilst we were there, the hostel also took possession of two adorable kittens -- so whatever your pet preference, you're covered. If you don't like animals, rest assured they don't cross into the hostel in anyway -- you have to go looking for them.
Getting to the hostel is quite easy. The bus stops just at the junction of Pease Road, where one side of the has a six-foot-high wall. The hostel is located up behind this wall and it clearly signposted. But look for the yellow house. If you are walking from the bus/train station, pick up the free map, as the hostel is clearly marked on the map. It's about a twenty-minute walk (the last part is a little uphill).
