Informe de Hostelz.com
Let no one ever say there is a shortage of good hostels in Krakow anymore. The Stranger Hostel (don't ask about the origins of the name, unless you want to hear a really strange answer) fits perfectly into the plethora of new, funky, backpacker-friendly hostels in this city of nightlife, party fun and history. Started by two guys from Seattle, it is now a new contender in Krakow.

The hostel is located about a five minute walk from the Old Town. The location is great, although this being a small city, there are a couple of hostels that are located exactly in the Old Town square. But a little excercise does every backpacker good. The truth is every hostel in Krakow has a great location, because you're never more than about half an hour walk from anywhere else.

Let's start with the lowlights. The rooms themselves are really nothing special: they're big; one room leads to another meaning a lot of foot traffic during the night hours and quite frankly they are too loud and impersonal (Ikea style gets boring really quickly, although it is nice). The bathrooms have that certain "hostel" je ne sais quoi: the downstairs bathroom has two shower cabins with hooks outside, which offer little privacy. And breakfast, like every hostel breakfast is of that continental variety: bread, jam, marge, tea, and coffee. But at least there is a free breakfast, which always counts for the budget minded.

Highlights... there are only two, but they're big ones. The common room contains a bed-like structure on which several people can fit at once, together with their beers and pizza and a wall painted white wall serves as a screen for the LCD projector (which leads to a DVD player with a huge film library). And the other highlight (which is quite common for all the good hostels in Krakow) is the staff of young, multilingual and educated students willing to help you with anything you might want: from hints on how to get to Aushwitz, to pointers for a good night out.

Very good hostel to stay. Staff fantastic. Nice location. Large and clean rooms. I recommend this hostel and the city of Krakow.

I don't know why but for some reason I really liked this hostel. We stayed in a room right next to the pounding music but hey, they give free ear plugs. I think what liked best was the environment and the vibe. The staff is very helpful and everywhere I went in Krakow that they recommended was excellent. Poland is a cheap relief too.

We slept really well here, nice mattresses and clean linens. A lot of fun if you want to party, but the bedrooms are surprisingly quiet too. Good common room, lots of DVDs, and great laundry service! You can get a whole load washed and folded for less than $2! Excellent location, too!

Wonderful place. Very well located, not in the middle of all the hectic places during tha high season, what makes it good for the one who likes a little peace and security. 24 hour convenience store is located right around the corner. Awesomely friendly staff, nice rooms, confy beds, good selection of DVDs, good music, free internet, breakfast, and the best looking female staff I've seen in hostels in years of travelling. Definitely recommend it! Hey, Stranger Hostel staff, enjoyed my stay there very much, and I'm definitely going back soon. Cheers to all of you!

I was there last year. It was not really well known at the time, but I had a marvelous trip there! (Five nights, if I remember well.) Very friendly staff, clean rooms, free laundry, Internet, breakfast, DVD player, and cheap CD burning (very useful for emptying digital cameras!). A very good hostel, I would conclude!

This hostel is very modern and central to Krakov's old town. It's on the tram line and you can taxi there for next to nothing. It's an easy walk from the train and bus depot. Once you arrive, you see that a lot of attention has gone into the design. It appears to have been recently remodeled and is spotlessly clean. The JuJu Lounge offers up a wide selection of Hollywood movies and Xbox games, as well as CD sound and a good kitchen. ** Free Internet! I haven't seen it offered anywhere else. Fast computers made me feel like I was back in the USA. Oh, and a beautiful and helpful staff. I heard they have a hostel in Wroclaw as well, I'm going to check that out... Definitely recommended!

This was my second visit to the hostel inside of nine months and I have to say it keeps getting better. The communal layout of the Ju Ju Lounge makes it impossible to not make friends (why aren't all hostels like that!), and the free movies make it a fantastic place to relax. However much I loved Krakow, I still looked forward to coming home to The Stranger at the end of the night. The staff are fantastic! Aga is beautiful and they all take the time to answer questions and point the more lost amongst us in the right direction. There is an abundance of lockers and the rooms are nice enough, but those are just mere details. The atmosphere in the place makes it worth a visit alone. I made so many friends here (the OC girls, Jimmy NY, Sean Cassonova, etc. etc.), it was really hard to leave. I stayed here 10 nights and hope to return again soon. Simply fantastic.

This place was epic — an epidemic some may say. If you want to meet people and kick back on a huge sofa then this is for you. The girls are lovely and very pretty, too. Ju Ju Lounge rocks and help is always at hand, a must in Krakow.

Very cool place with lots of unusual and convenient services, including free laundry, CD burning, and an enormous TV screen. Highly recommended.

Not a bad place. It has great staff, although the breakfast was a bit dodgy. The staff were very helpful, and they have free movies, and the Ju Ju Lounge.

This was the best place I stayed in the whole of Eastern Europe. It has a friendly staff (the girls I met who run the place are friendly and beautiful) and clean large rooms. I give it a definite recommendation!

You have to stay here. It's the best hostel I've ever stayed in. They better not up the price because of all these rave reviews. Oh, and tell them to open a hostel in Croatia — they promised me that one. Let's hope they follow it through.

This was the best place of all I stayed at during my trip in Eastern Europe! It has a nice young staff, two computers with DSL access for free, and burning CDs for a digital camera is possible. It has a big place to relax (sort of big 10-square meter bed with a video projector, DVD, music, and books). The breakfast is very good, served from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., which for clubbers is fine. ;) The hostel is very close to Krakow's center, and a pizzeria is 50 meters away. Laundry facilities are good, and usually available about 24 hours. The rooms are only dormitories but the place is really friendly and you have some locks to keep things. I LOVED IT. Hi to all the Stranger Hostel staff!

At the moment I am enjoying this hostel's free Internet. What a place to stay! I believe I'll be here for a good while longer than I had planned. It has great beds, a wonderful relaxation area, music, free XBOX and DVDs, and they even do your laundry. The staff are very nice as well. I've been to a good number of hostels that are supposed to be the best, and this ranks up there in the top three.

Pros: This place has a really nice staff, a homey atmosphere, a cool common room (projector, movies, Xbox), a good location, and a generally good vibe. Cons: The bathrooms and showers and sinks all have some kind of goddamn problem. Either the water pressure from the sinks blows a wave of water on your crotch, or there is no soap, or toilet paper or something was in general f'd up in the bathroom department. The kitchen downstairs is miniscule, and the kitchen upstairs is good. But there are hardly any knives/plates/bowls/skillets or whatever, so you wind up saying "SH*T" and going downstairs to interrupt some loser's movie and rummaging through the downstairs kitchen to find a cheese grater or something (good luck). Watch out for the coffee maker too — it takes a Ph.D. to make a good cup, I sh*t you not. Word to the wise, you have to jam a spoon in the thing to really get the thing going (seriously).
