Informe de Hostelz.com
This gem of a hostel is clean, vibrant, and a great value for the money. The décor is definitely hip and trendy, with art and cutting edge design everywhere. The hostel is a refreshing place to stay, especially after the hustle and bustle of a day in the city. There are frequently changing art exhibitions and a secure walled garden to enjoy. It seems a very popular and busy small hostel, so early reservations are strongly recommended.

The hostel comprises of one dorm for eight people and a number of private rooms. Unfortunately, payment is by cash only, although they will take your credit card details to secure your reservation. All rooms have ceiling fans, and private rooms have sinks. And towels are included and all rooms have use of the shared washroom facilities. On check-in you also receive a free city map and a booklet called "Beehive Recommends" which lists great places to visit, eat, and be entertained across the city. The reception is 24 hours, so there is no curfew.

Most of the rooms are on the first floor, though there are a couple in the basement, which is where the lounge area and kitchen can also be found. There's also free internet access and free local and national phone calls. Breakfast, packed lunches, and evening meals are available. The prices are very reasonable; for example an espresso is 50 cents, cappuccinos are €1, smoothies are €2.50, and banana bread is €1.50. While the packed lunch of a large filled ciabatta, fruit and vegetables is only €4.

The Beehive Hostel is located 5 minutes walk from Termini train station in the centre of Rome. If you fly on a no frills airline to Rome Ciampino airport, the airline buses run by Terravision drop you right by Termini (€8 single, €13 return). If you fly to the main Fiumicino airport there is also a direct train to termini for €9.50. Termini is also the nearest metro station. Once at Termini exit east on the concourse and you will find yourself facing Via Marghera. The hostel is three blocks down on your left. Ignore the street number on the right as they do not correlate (number 43 is on the other side is still on first block). The hostel entrance is a metal door in the yellow walled garden, marked only by a small hexagonal sign, and probably a poster about the latest art exhibition at the hostel. If you reach "Enjoy Rome" next door, then you have gone to far (but this friendly travel agency can give you loads of helpful advice when you first arrive and they can arrange walking tours, excursions, etc.).

Nice rooms but not so nice area
We stayed in one of the apartments for two nights. The apartment had great accommodations with a kitchen, eating area, and free internet. The decor was great. However, the neighborhood was in a sketchy part of town full of graffiti, trash, and homeless people. We never had a bad encounter with the neighbors, but I wouldn't have felt safe walking at night by myself or with another girl. I would definitely recommend staying at the actual Beehive, not the apartments. The only plus was the proximity to the Termini, about a five-minute walk. If you do stay at the apartments, there are buttons by each door to let you out, otherwise you have to use your four keys to exit. We didn't notice the buttons and trekked back to the Beehive with loaded backpacks to return our keys.

The regular hostel is fine although the front desk people seem a bit snooty and rude. We stayed in the apartments and the difference between the apartments and the hostel was pretty drastic. Not at all what we expected and in a poorly lit and trash strewn area. Stay away from the apartments. And they are not at all close to the hostel, which you have to go to first to check in then walk and find the apartments. Just not very nice at all. We also suspect that we got bedbugs from them, which itch all over and are very nasty!

I was only in Rome one night, going from Istanbul to London, but this is far and away one of the best places I have ever stayed. Relaxed and calm in the middle of Rome, I have stayed in hostels in over thirty countries and this is still one that stands out in my memory. Super clean, chill, great food, very relaxing after spending a week in a hostel Istanbul where sleeping before 3 a.m. was discouraged. A great place to end up after a hectic day on the road or in town.

We stayed at the Beehive hostel for two nights three days ago. My boyfriend really liked the coziness of the hostel and I really enjoyed the food there! They Make Very Yummy Delicious Fresh Food At The Beehive. We've also stayed in a four-star hotel in Rome last year, but the beehive was just as good and way cheaper. The rooms were spacious, very clean, and just a few blocks away from the Termini station. Free internet was available, but was always occupied. If they would just put more computers there for guests to use, it would be Perfect!

The hostel is very clean, has got very good vegetarian cafeteria, and helpful staff. The owners pay great attention to the ecology. The only minor negative issue is noise in the night on the street outside. I stayed there for one night only, but I can recommend The Beehive to everyone.

I stayed at the Beehive's Clover apartment last summer and highly recommend it. For Euro 30 per person, you can't beat it. Clean, well stocked kitchen, good hot shower, firm beds and an iMac with free internet. I suppose the somewhat grimy and populous Termini area of Rome could strike a suburban American as rough, but other than being duly cautious about pickpocket-level thievery, I'd say it's fine. (But I live in Philadelphia so I felt right at home.) The hostel itself is very contemporary, funky, naturally lit, clean, and friendly, and also in a good location. I'd stay there in a heartbeat.

We booked the Acacia appartment for our group of 8. When we arrived they told us that something was wrong was the plumbing in the Acacia... so we had to wait a day for repairs. They had booked us a cheap hotelroom nearby for 1 night. Next day we were able to move into the Acacia and once there it was great. It had some trouble with the internet connection, and that was resolved the next day. The rooms are spaceous, the kitchen is a bit narrow, but will do perfectly. The central hall, featuring the I-mac, was nice and we used it as a living-/dinnerroom. The balcony looks onto the adjacent buildings. Everything seemed proper and clean enough, so no complaints there. In the early mornings there's quiet some noise coming from the street... so especially during the summertimes when you want to leave the window open, you might a bit of trouble sleeping. Only thing that kept us wondering, was the fact that we found traces in the computer indicating that the computer had been used not to long before we entered the Acacia. So maybe they had double-booked the Acacia for a night or maybe there was a plumbing-problem? We shall never know...

Wonderful. Very close to the train station, with locking gate and inner garden. The hostel has, by the far, the most character I've seen - art on the walls, a cafe downstairs (with alright food, i must admit,) a real living room with a nice library. There's free internet and a super friendly cat, Ingmar - big, fat and fluffy. The dorms are very clean with good beds, and there are a couple of bathrooms and individual shower rooms - no rows of stalls with curtains alone. The staff was super helpful, as was the map and guide to Rome you get for free. This isn't the cheapest place in Rome, but it's worth every euro to come back here at the end of the day.

Although it's not THE place for socializing, it's definitely unique. The stress on the ambiance and decoration made it totally different to other hostels. The location is excellent, just 2 blocks from Termini station, and on the "nice" side of that area. I was alone and never felt afraid at night, walking back to the hostel. They have free internet (only one computer) but the breakfast is not included, although they have a small bar serving breakfast and dinner at moderate prices. The pillows were like clouds! I will never forget them! And the rooms are quite big, with lots of space. The only downside I'd say where the tiny shower rooms. They have no windows and it's quite hard to get dressed there. All in all, a great experience. I'd definitely go back!

This was a great place to stay. It is really close to the train station but in a safe area with lots of cheap restaurants serving good pasta. We especially loved the Beehive guidebook we got when we checked in, which listed recommended sights and restaurants as well as warning against the current scams targeting tourists. The basement cafe and free Internet were great. The only downside was that the dorm room doesn't have any age limit and we had a weird middle-aged guy there for our last two nights who walked around in his underwear.

My sister and I spent two nights here and wish we'd had many more to spend! We stayed in the large, mixed dorm room, which had us both a little nervous — neither of us were crazy about the idea of sharing a room with 8 other strangers, let alone some of them being guys. However, the room was huge, and the beds were so spread out it definitely didn't feel like there were 10 people in there. The staff were really nice, the showers were very clean, and the free Internet was a huge bonus. It had a very homey feel to it (the gardens and the cat!) and whenever I get back to Rome I am definitely headed straight back to The Beehive!

Very first trip to Europe (single female traveler) ever and I had never stayed at a hostel before. The Beehive certainly set the bar as far as "the best" in budget accommodations! I booked a bed in their co-ed dorm...very clean, spacious and safe! And the pillows weren't so bad either. You'll definitely meet a variety of fellow travelers. (Note: The Beehive is NOT a "party" hostel. The people who stay there range from single female/male, to older couples and families. They are all very considerate and mindful of the hostel's quiet hours!) Each bunk bed comes with its own lamp so if you come in late, you'll be able to get into bed easily without waking your neighbors. Make sure to bring along Melatonin or ear plugs — the traffic/street noise can get a little annoying late at night! Toilets and showers are separated and have their own lockable doors, so no waiting in line. (There's a "big" bathroom at the end of the hall.) The people working the reception are all really cool — especially the Italian girl from England (sorry, I forgot her name)! Since they are the ones to buzz the door open, they stay up as late as the last guest coming in does does. Great little side garden for people to meet and hang out! Literally two blocks away from Termini. While I was there (1st week of May 2005), the Beehive was in the middle of re-doing their kitchen and common room. I don't think they'll allow guests to use the refrigerator or cook their own meals due to some law or government regulations. They said that they would instead offer cheap meals for sale. Free Internet, but they only have one computer (iMac). And of course, there's Ingmar the cat! He's such an attention whore! The coolest cat in Italy. I definitely recommend the Beehive!! When I go back to Rome, I'll remember to book here.

I stayed here for three nights in April 2005 and it was hands-down the best hostel I've ever stayed at. Immaculately clean with arty decor, the hostel is conveniently located near the Termini station (which has a grocery store) and the major subway and bus lines. Upon check-in, they give guests a superb resource—the Beehive guide to restaurants, gelato, attractions, and miscellaneous tips, along with a Beehive map of Rome. Free Internet usage, free shampoo and body wash dispensers in showers, and very comfy dorm beds. The beautiful kitchen facility is being renovated in May 2005 to become a cafe, so plan meals accordingly. I will definitely stay here again, the next time I'm in Rome!

We stayed on Acacia apartment in April. The apartment was really nice. The kitchen had plates, glasses and all the kitchen gadgets (like a microwave oven and toaster) for making food. The bathroom was clean and nice. The apartment was near Termini, which is a good location. It's within walking distance to all the major sights of Rome. Negative things: in April the rooms in the Acacia were quite cold at night. There were extra blankets though, which were helpful. The Internet was down few times but it didn't bother me. Rooms were noisy at night — street sounds were quite loud. I believe this is the case in all hostels in Rome because Rome is a noisy city. :) Very bad things were the bloodsucking bedbugs in my bed. We had a three-person apartment and my friends didn't notice those in their bed. I haven't seen those bugs here in Finland so I had to ask our Irish neighbors what those bugs were. They said they were bedbugs — tiny little things that come out at night and bite you and suck your blood. It was horrible. That's why I gave this hostel only two stars. Otherwise it would be four- star hostel. I just hate bugs.
