An unassuming hostel in a beautiful old building right near the Dom in Old Town, Dome Pearl Hostel is well situated but still a fifteen-minute walk from the bus/train stations. This hostel is purely functional -- besides two couches in the reception area, the hostel lacks common social areas and thus attracts a quieter, older crowd.
Some of the amenities include wireless internet, one computer for general use, microwave, electric teapot, free tea, clean bathrooms, personal shower rooms, free linen, free towels, and twenty-four-hour hostel access. The beds are firm but generally comfortable. The pillows are the typical hostel fluff. Hostel reception is located on the third floor and some rooms are on the fourth floor, so those with heavy packs (none of you seasoned travelers though, right?) be prepared!
Overall, the hostel was a bit pricey for what you get. In addition, the reception is not that friendly and the woman who checked us in understands only certain key English phrases. While there are plenty of guidebooks, maps, and other information on both levels of the hostel, reception seems a little icy in given information.
The hostel is accessed by a keycode at night, so if you stay don't forget your code! Also, please be aware that this hostel is cash only. The hostel does not have a bar nor does it have a full-size kitchen -- although it does sell beer and water for 0.50 Lats at reception.
