HI - Rovaniemi - Hostel Rudolf

Your first mission will not be to find the hostel, but to find the Santa Claus hotel where the keys for the hostel can be collected. From the bus station and train station it is a good 15-20 minutes walk to the Santa Claus hotel. It is advisable to pick a map up at the bus station, as walking in the general direction of the city center isn't as easy as it sounds. Once at the hotel, the hostel is at the top of the pedestrian precinct of Rovaniemi, which is about another 5 minute walk.

Hostel Rudolf itself is like a ghost town on arrival. For most of your stay you may not bump into another soul, but those who do venture this far north are probably here for reasons other than atmosphere. The hostel is an unmanned place so there is very little on the ground floor except a small book shelf, with not very many books and the lift to the floors. Breakfast is also not included but can be found at the Santa Claus Hotel for a small fee.

The rooms was pretty bright and spacious, equipped with three single beds, a small table and a really old television. Also included with the room was a private bathroom which had a pretty modern shower and toilet - sheets and towels were also included in the room. There is a small kitchen on each floor, but it could be mistaken for a cleaning cupboard, as it is about the same size as one.

If you are coming to Rovaniemi, Hostel Rudolph is a good bet for affordable accommodation. You will probably only be coming to Rovaniemi to go to Santa Clause village, so the hostel is perfect in terms of ten minutes walking distance to the bus station for the shuttle there. If you are not fazed by the seclusion element then Hostel Rudolph is a cheap and comfortable stop for a night or two, but any longer and you might feel you are in the set of The Shining.
