This place is a great hostel in one of the nicest places on everyone's list - the famous lakes district. This small hostel is like staying with family.
The hostel is located just off the main street which the bus runs along - if coming from Windermere train st, hop on an Ambleside bus and ask the driver for directions. The hostel is just behind the main car park that you will see from the bus, walk through the carpark (slightly uphill) and take the small street to your left. The hostel is just along a bit on the right and is well signed. On-site parking may be available but would be worth checking prior to booking.
The hostel is a big old house with dorms ranging from 2 to 11 beds per room (bunks) which are comfortable, clean and feel very safe. All rooms have views and a wash basin.
There is no curfew as a manager is on-site so you can come and go as you please. There is also a large lounge/common room with a fire, satellite TV, video, and internet connection in the hall near reception. This is a great place to meet other travellers and relax - it feels just like your own lounge room with friends round visiting!
The hostel also has a large modern kitchen, with hobs, microwaves, oven, fridge/freezer and ample storage space. Tea and coffee is available all day, every day for free (usually by back door in the kitchen). Laundry facilities are also available - you will need to pay reception first.
There are loads of walks to do within minutes from the hostel and maps readily available from reception for Ambleside and surrounding towns. There are a number of pubs to visit - Ambleside has a quiet but present nightlife which depends a little on the time of year when visiting.
If you are keen to buy equipment/walking gear then you should check out nearby Keswick as it loads cheaper. Also make sure to buy a bus pass for a day or longer - this works out cheaper but is still not a bargin.
When in the lakes district, this is the place to stay.
