Hotel des Artistes is a three-star hotel style accommodation that offers six- and four-bed mixed dorms, as well as single, double, twin, and three- and four-bed private rooms. It is located a few steps from the Duomo of San Gennaro and the nearest metro, Piazza Cavour, is a five-minute walk away, linking you to the main train station to reach Pompeii and Sorrento.
The dorm rooms are converted hotel rooms, with balcony, satellite television, telephone, and en-suite consisting of a hair dryer, toilet, shower, basin, and bidet. The cleanliness of the rooms, and the hotel in general, is excellent, as the rooms are serviced daily. All towels, linen, soap, and breakfast are provided. Each set of two beds have a bedside lamp, which is great when the rest of the room is asleep. The hotel is located on a busy, noisy street and although the doors are soundproof, the rooms do get stuffy at night and becomes very noisy when you open the doors to let in fresh air.
Breakfast is served from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., offering bread baskets (two to four rolls, three packets of toasties, butter, and assorted jams), a choice of plain, chocolate, marmalade, or lemon cream croissant, orange juice, and espresso coffee or tea. Occasionally it is hard to track down someone to serve you breakfast but they are more than happy to give you two or more croissants.
Reception is open twenty-four hours. Security is average if you are staying in a dorm room. You are buzzed into the building and front door of the hotel but the two sets of keys are very hard to keep track of when there are more than two people staying in the dorm room and there are no lockers. Free Internet access is provided in the reception area on one computer. A book exchange is also provided at reception, offering a great range of English, German, and Italian books. Car parking is available and there is wheelchair access in the form of a lift. This hotel is highly recommended, a gem in the city of Naples!
