Descripción
Even from the name ‘Wide Mouth Frog' you can tell that this backpackers in Quepos, Manuel Antonio is going to be different. The imposing white wall and archway overlooked by large mature Christmas Palms and numerous banana plants makes it seem like the entrance to an old manor house or a classy hotel rather than a backpackers.

It calls itself a backpackers and does indeed have four brand new dorms, holding between five and twelve people each, along with a beautifully tiled shower block with hot water, but it is the cleanliness, atmosphere and facilities which make it stand out.

Sitting under the traditionally made sun umbrellas, watching the light from the reflection of the crystal clear pool (check out the wicked frog logo under water) dance across the palm and mango trees it is obvious why the owners (a Kiwi and Brit couple) believe they have created a paradise in central Quepos.

If the $7 dorm room does not appeal fear not for the 6 private rooms ($25 for 2 people) are very large and all newly decorated. You would then be able to cook in the outdoor kitchen, sit under the teak/bamboo rancho and listen to music whilst meeting other travellers, or relax in one of the hammocks and still enjoy the luxury of a private room with bathroom, fridge and air con ($10 extra).
Quepos had boomed in the last two years and is still expanding. The night life, bars, restaurants, supermarkets, local sodas, shops etc are all in Quepos and the fact that Manuel Antonio national park and stunning beach is only a 10 min & 25 cents bus journey away (with the buses running every half an hour all day) more and more people are now choosing to stay in Quepos to avoid paying the much higher prices of Manuel Antonio itself.

Situated only 125m east of the bus station in Quepos (head towards the football pitch or post office) and previously called Villas Mar y Sol, the new owners Maree and Crispy have done wonders to turn it into the Wide Mouth Frog or La Rana Bocona as it is becoming known locally. Things like the bohemian TV room with sofas, Arabian style drapes and soft ceiling, the hand made papier-mâché objet d'art, the obvious effort which has gone into their gardens (there are bananas, mangos, papayas, coconuts, pineapples, orchids, haleconias, pumpkin, bromeliads and tree ferns to name but a few) and the overall relaxed and friendly vibe you feel here all contribute to making this without a doubt the best value for money option for your stay in Quepos, Manuel Antonio.
