4 Great Check it out
My original plan was to stay one night and I ended up staying eight nights in April '09. mostly because of how cool this hostel was. The staff was super friendly. Food was free and top notch. In addition to all you can eat eggs and rolls, huge amounts of fresh fruit are served. Any leftover fruit is made in to liquados and placed in the refrigerator for everyone to drink later when the temperature soars. Yes, it is in an old building but look closely and you will notice that someone is always mopping or cleaning something quite literally all day. Good people and good times but not a heavy party place thank goodness. Things wrap up about eleven at night so all can get a good nights sleep. Great memories.

5 The best hostel in merida!
this place rocks. i had a wonderful five days there! the owner, moises, is the nicest guy. and i found the rest of the staff to be delightful (oscar is not as grumpy as he seems). i had nothing but joyful experiences there. i'm giving it five stars for the following five reasons. the location couldn't be better -- it's on the zocalo. the beds are amazing. the air flow was wonderful -- the surrounding windows are 3 meters tall! the breakfast was the best buffet i've ever seen at a hostel. the owner is the real deal. stay there and have a wonderful time! i can't wait to go back.

2 Nice place but desk staff are awful
The owner seems to be a nice guy, but everyone else who works at the desk are not are not the kind of people who should be working in a hostel. Apparently all of the desk staff is the owner's ex-wife and her extended family. There are two women working at the desk who give the impression of hating all tourists -- which is very strange for a hostel. It is unpleasant handing your money over to people like them. A couple of them even walk around smoking in the common areas. Personally, I think that if you don't like foreigners or tourists, then don't work in a hostel and don't expect people to come from other countries and hand you their money. It is currently 135 pesos for a dorm bed, which is on the expensive side for a hostel in Merida. There are other hostels in town that charge 40 pesos less per day. Double rooms here actually cost more than many of the nearby hotels. It can get noisy because the place is right on the main square and there are all kinds of things going on there all the time. They have some really loud screeching birds in the morning. Some of the double rooms actually have no ceiling and connect to adjacent rooms where you can hear everything. Strange for a private room not to be really private. However, it's a really nice space in a colonial building. Quite good breakfast. Better than average mattresses. They do keep the place quite clean. They've managed to get a number of things right in this place and I'd love to give it a high rating. If the owner would replace the people working at the desk with people who really enjoy working with foreigners, it would improve the place about 500%. In the meantime, expect cold and unfriendly service if you come here. You might still have a good time regardless.

1 They don't care about booking!
We booked for the 31st Dec. '08 with another website. When we arrived at the hostel, they told us that a couple that was in "our" room with bathroom wanted to stay one more day and they gave priority to them!? There were no more free rooms with bathroom. So, we had to move in a different hotel and you may understand how we were upset for the problem and the discussion. We are still discussing in these days, after weeks, and I want to alert as much people as I can. The postion is very central but the staff is not suitable for this job.

4 A ten-minute walk from the bus station, this clean new hostel has a warm family atmosphere. It is centrally-located at the southwest corner of the Main Plaza on the second floor of a huge 19th Century house. There is lots of availability and the prices are cheap for the value. For example, included in the price are a full breakfast, TV room, kitchen, backpack-sized lockers, purified water, new beds, and bedding. Internet and laundry services are also offered at competitive prices.
