Informe de Hostelz.com
Institute St. Sebastian is a large hostel that is practical and has many features. It has a great location -- only a fifteen- to twenty-minute walk from the train station. Alternatively you can take a bus toward the old town and get off before crossing the river. From Linzer Gasse, go through the gate marked Feuerwache Bruderhof. From the airport you can stay on bus 2. It is only a further five-minute walk to the old town from the hostel.

The dorm rooms at the hostel are spacious, clean, and secure. Each room has a lock on the door and each guest gets a large locker with a key. The beds are comfortable enough. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag or sheets if you don't want to pay extra to rent them. The bathrooms are very clean and modern, as well as having plenty of privacy. If the hostel is busy, though, it seems like showers may be in short supply.

Breakfast is served daily between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. -- it is a very basic bread roll, tea and coffee, and juice. Each floor of the hostel also has a dining room and kitchen (cooking equipment must be borrowed from reception). The security in the kitchens is a bit excessive -- the fridge is divided into lockers, and every cupboard also requires key entry.

Internet access is available (wireless) but you have to buy time from reception. It is also possible to do washing for a fee, and use the public phone in the reception area.

The downsides of the hostel include the loud church bells nearby and the echoing hallways, which seem to amplify any noise. The large size of the hostel means there is a complete lack of atmosphere, and as it is so large, it is popular with groups. There are no real communal areas apart from the smoking areas (a central section on each floor with no ventilation so all the halls smell of stale smoke) and the uninviting dining rooms.

This is a well located hostel that provides a good place to sleep for a night, but it is not a social hostel or a place that encourages you to meet other travelers.

Easily accessible, inexpensive, very clean
My wife and I stayed here for four nights in September 2007. Our room was basic, but very clean. The bathroom was fine. We spent our days walking the city (even in rain), so we were not looking for lodging with leisure-time amenities. This suited us perfectly. Breakfasts are spartan -- bread, jam, soft cheese, juice, and coffee. We found it possible to socialize with other guests in the breakfast dining room. The only social area is a smoking zone which we avoided, although we had to walk through it to get to our room. We slept well in the single beds. Since we are avid walkers, this location suited us perfectly. We walked from and to the train station as well as to everywhere in the old city, to the Augistiner Brewery, and elsewhere. We can highly recommend St. Sebastians if a hostelry is your preferred kind of lodging. And this -- the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Mixed
This hostel seems to have it all -- good location close to the Old Town, clean bathrooms, friendly staff, and a decent breakfast. Unfortunately, it also seems to have bedbugs, as I left with an impressive collection of insect bites. Sad, as it would have earned a good rating from me otherwise.

This hostel was the best we stayed at in all of Europe. You can't go wrong, the hostel, the City of Salzburg, it's all a great experience. Wish we had spent more time here. Very clean, very helpful front desk, a wonderful stay.

This is an old nunnery in the back of the St. Sebastian church. Rooms are spotless, but it is huge and not the easiest place to meet people. Beautiful old building and helpful staff, super central with a car park for guests and 24 hour access to your room. Just confirm the price before you stay because even though our twin room was hotel quality, we were charged 66 euros per night instead of the 44 shown on the website. Steep!

Spending a night in St. Sebastian I was very delighted about the marble floor, the spacious halls on every floor and the location of the house, which is full of character. Although the beds were a little too short (like the parking space in the courtyard) the standard of cleanliness is like a hospital's. This hostel is really in accord with Salzburg as city. Not without reason are Patricia Highsmith's novels part of this unique and enigmatic scenery. Breakfast is thrifty, the staff are down to earth and the old town is within walking distance. It is a special place to stay overnight.
