Informe de Hostelz.com
Smolna Youth Hostel, is a very pleasant hostel conveniently located right next to a train stop that connects to the central train station and both bus stations. It's about a 20 minute walk to the center of old town, and another 20 minutes in the other direction to some excellent city parks.

The hostel is very clean, has an excellently equipped kitchen and even boasts a ping pong table and tubs with drying lines for your washing (done by hand). The staff are friendly and helpful. There appear to be other hostels that offer many free perks such as internet, laundry, coffee and tea; this place doesn't have any of that. But, it's cheaper than the others, and if you are staying for a couple of days, the savings will be worth it. Also, the hostel has a lot of Polish backpackers staying there, so it's a nice opportunity to meet travellers from the country you are visiting.

The only downsides to this hostel are the lockout which is from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. This makes for a bit of a line in the showers as everyone has to be out the door by 10 a.m. and there are only three showers. There is also a 2 a.m. curfew, which could be a bit of a bummer for the party crowd. Oh, and it's four long flights of stairs to the hostel -- with no lift.

2 Hmm, when I came here I was in a room with three old men. In other parts of this very decent, but very boring and impersonal hostel, there were a lot of Polish and French people who couldn't speak any English. Only after three days did people come with whom I was able to communicate in any way. If you're looking for a cheap, sightseeing hostel it's a good centrally located hostel. If you want to have a drink (not allowed in the hostel) and party (lockout from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and curfew at 2 a.m.) you should absolutely avoid this place.

3 The lockout SUCKED, and when I stayed there (Fall 1999) there was an earlier curfew — if you missed the curfew, you had to sleep on the park bench outside (well, this is what one person did, and he got mugged). There were not many Polish backpackers staying there, there were actually students — commuting from the country into the city because it was cheaper to stay at this hostel than live in the city.
