Informe de Hostelz.com
This is a small independent hostel just by the M8 (motorway). Just a small sign outside the door tells you that you are at the right place, and when you get inside there's nothing to tell you that you actually entered the right door (except for the fact that there's only one door). There's no real reception and you can't tell the staff from the guests in any way. (Maybe you can if you remember that the staff sometimes stroll around in their briefs.)

The common room is a big room with a lot of comfy coaches in every corner, but it's unfortunately the smoking room as well. The walls are plastered with posters about happenings and venues in and around Glasgow, and you'll fail-safe find something to your liking. The kitchen (to say it in a nice way) is a mess. The term "your mother doesn't work here", well; it seems no one else does either. You can try to clean your dishes, but the towels provided are so old that they smell like... yeah well, you can smell for yourself.

The dorms are stacked with beds, and it can be a bit hard to get a good night sleep when the window has to be open because of all the people in the room (and mind the M8 just outside the window). The (one and only) toilet is in the same room as one of the two showers, so the queue in the morning can be a bit frustrating. [Update: We are told that there are additional toilets on the first floor.]

They offer breakfast (toast, jam and juice - self catering in the doubtful kitchen) and free tea and coffee. It is in a "moderately short" walking distance (20 minutes?) from the bus station and train station. The best way to get there by foot is to find St. Vincent Street and follow it to the M8 (you can't miss it!). From there the hostel is on the other side of the crossing, and not far from the wine store you'll see a small sign "North Lodge Hostel".

Free internet, keyless entry to rooms, and the building and the manager were all great. A low point was the ordinary showers and the really low point was being mauled by bedbugs, a horrendously unpleasant experience needing antihistamines to quell the itching of seventy-plus bites.

Everything about this hostel seems to be fine. Free internet, free laundry, adequate kitchen, and common room all seem like great draws to this place. The people even seem nice. I understand that my experience at this hostel might be an isolated one, but it was the worst and most violating experience I have had yet in a hostel. There was no respect for other members of the room- people brought home random strangers into the hostel and had loud sex, waking everyone in the room up and not caring about it. Also, and most importantly, there are many people that live in this hostel that made me very uncomfortable. One man made advances toward me without my consent and wouldn't let off until i had to pry myself away. I felt more safe on the streets on Glasgow than I did in the hostel. Please think twice if you are a female traveling alone.

If my stay in Glasgow had not been limited of two nights, I would have extended my time at the North Lodge to the maximum. What a great hostel! Ok, I didn't become a fan of mixed gender dorm rooms and still would appreciate lockers, but after all I wanted was a clean bed and I got that and so much more. John and his staff are just great and helpful. I never enjoyed so much watching a stupid eighties movie like I did in the TV room of the North Lodge at my second night there. For Glasgow I would not consider any other hostel or even hotel, no, there is nothing better than the North Lodge!

This hostel is definitely one of the best. I planned on staying one or two nights and ended up staying much longer, which is definitely the norm here. If you're looking for an institutional boring hostel, don't stay here. but if you want somewhere that has everything you could need, kitchen, good showers, and the best atmosphere anywhere, definitely stay here.

This place is remarkable. Incredibly friendly. John let me clean the downstairs bathroom and lent me a bike to use for touring around the city. Glasgow is an unbelievably beautiful place -- the people, the architecture, and especially the Fish and Chips. If you don't feel at home here double your Prozac dosage.

I loved this hostel -- my favourite in the U.K. The staff are the friendliest (in a kinda strange way). I made lots of friends here, it had a great buzz around it. It is also in a good location for a good price.

The North Lodge was one hell of an experience. All good things came to us in Glasgow because of the sweet ass folks at the North Lodge, all but one desired item. We highly recommend a stay here at least once in your lifetime. They are what made Glasgow the sh*t.

Well I stayed in the hostel for a few nights last year and I still remember that as an awesome experience which started my adventure with Scotland. John, the owner, makes this place one of a kind and the logde is a brilliant idea, you can actually get to know people really fast. The conditions do not matter cause the staff is so friendly and the atmosphere so fantastic that you actually don't want anything more. That doesn't mean they are bad -- this is just a hostel, right, that's what I mean. If I go to Scotland once again I'll definitely stay there!

I can't really give you any objective information about the facilities in this place, as I was just naturally high all the time. Yeah, I'm not being funny! The moment you walk in this place you breath in a totally smiling and welcoming atmosphere. It is a nearly mind-altering experience, I tell you.

While the facilities of this hostel may not be the cleanest, the environment and attitude of the staff and fellow guests more than makes up for it. The owner and staff are friendly and accommodating (and of course a bit cheeky and sarcastic as well). I have stayed there three times now and have always had a great time. If you're looking for luxury, then this isn't your place. But if you're looking for a laid-back, cheap place within short walking distance of the city center and West End, then this is a great place.
