Informe de Hostelz.com
Note: This hostel is not in compliance with any fire regulations and is operating illegally. The owner and architect of this hostel has created illegal hostels before which have been closed down. One of these actually burned down and there is reason to believe staying in this hostel may be dangerous due to electrical wiring faults and other issues. It may be closed down soon if it hasn't been already.

Response from the owner:

with reference to the information posted on your website re the celtic inn, please note the building is and always has been registered as a hostel for the last forty years, we are fully compliant with both building and fire regulations and have regular fire inspections from dublin fire brigade and have on every inspection been given written approval from chief fire officer mr gerry stanley ,we are definitley not closing down and have no orders to do so .in relation to the other illegal hostel you mentioned, it was not operating as a hostel but as bedsits and a fire which broke out was a result of a careless tenant and not as an electrical fault no one was injured or killed. please note ,the recent expose on r.t.e. primetime programme had many discrepencies and untrue information about our hostel and we are pursuing this matter through the courts.

1 this is the worst hostel I've ever seen in my life! it's not clean, the stair horribly smells, four floors without elevator, blankets are rotten, beds are crumbling and on the second floor very dangerous, after one shower the bathroom looks like a lake, windows and doors are not adequate for Irish winters. Finally I totally agree about the danger of fire because all beds and stairs are of wood and there are no emergency exits and nothing to prevent the fire. when we arrived we tried to charge a mobile but a flame came out when we tried to do it and so we did not try anymore because of the real danger of fire. Besides it was not possible to ask for help because the staff is very unpleasant and when you stay you feel like staying in a sort of lager. Another important thing is that you can't use this hostel if you are on holydays because it is occupied only by Polish workers that don't create a relaxed atmosphere for travellers. The best moment we spent in this hostel was the departure moment -- obviously without invoice!

2 In my opinion this hostel gives you excellent value for money. It was one of the cheapest hostels in the centre of Dublin and I stayed there for a couple of nights having good fun with the other guests. Also, we found a way to override their internet connection meter, so we were able to check our e-mail for free whenever we needed to. When we got there, they gave us cleen sheets and the room was generally ok.

1 This was the worst hostel on our trip! The room that we had was not cleaned properly. The sheet for the bed that I was planning to sleep in hadn't even been changed since the last person slept in it, because there were strands of hair everywhere. By the time I noticed it I was too tired to go down to complain so I chose to sleep on top of the duvet instead. We had a two bed en suite room, and it was cold in the middle of the night, maybe due to the fact that the windows were not double-glazed! The only saving grace would be that the bathroom was clean, although it was SO small that someone more than a UK size 16 would definitely have trouble maneuvering around in it! In the directions, the hostel is listed as only a five-minute walk from the bus station. That's a LIE! It took us about ten to fifteen minutes of normal walking to get here, so unless someone is practically running, I doubt they could reach the hostel in five minutes from the bus station.
