Generally good
I had an overall positive experience at this hostel, very clean, quite a good location -- be prepared to walk a good half hour if you dont want to take public transport! breakfast was just average i got a stale croissant one morning! overall good value for money!

Most comfortable hostel beds!
Stayed here in July 2008. Great hostel, very clean, and it has the most comfortable beds I have ever experienced in a hostel (fluffy comforters and crisp sheets). Rooms are fairly large with plenty of storage space and a desk. School groups are however inevitable. Staff was very helpful with a great sense of humor. Don't be fooled with the in-house (expensive) Internet, there is cheap Internet available at Taxiphone nearby.

Mediocre, at best
My sister and I stayed in a double at this hostel for four nights in July 2007. I'll start with the good and end with the bad. The hostel is in a decent location (nearby cheap internet and grocery store -- huit a huit and taxiphone) within walking distance of good shopping and the public transportation (tram and bus). The room was swanky as hell -- big, clean, tons of counter space, comfy beds (wow!) and an en-suite bathroom. Whoa! I thought I was in heaven. But the walls are super-thin and you can hear the obnoxious school groups from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. But the worst thing was the receptionists. The service were so rude. Usually I can deal with snotty frenchies (I speak decent French), but the three employees I spoke with were condescending and deliberately unhelpful! Checking in, clearing up a misunderstanding, and leaving were awful experiences that left me feeling violated and frustrated. The worst employee of all appeared to be the one in charge -- a tall man who seemed to do nothing but roll his eyes and stare blankly. Do not stay at this hostel. The room was fantastic, but the experience was absolutely horrible! Save yourself the trouble.

I don't have experiences with hostels, but since now, this is the best hostel I've ever stayed. I was at the beginning of August and it was really amazing. The food was very delicious (great pineapples and fish), the rooms were absolutely comfortable and safe. Also the bar was very friendly place, I've met lots of friends there. If you want to stay there, don't doubt!

It sucked. The food was nonedible and the accommodation was not up to my standards. I guess you would call my stay there roughing it. We tryed to escape from the center many times. I really disliked it. And paying twenty-five euros for a room key I misplaced just topped up the whole trip. Or not. What a joke.

i came to stay here a few months back. i was not impressed by the standard of this hotel. the food was appauling and made me sick. the staff were rude and disrespectful. i felt that we were misguided and the rooms were nothing of the high standard we were told, they were cramped and smelly. for our lunch we were giving the night befores left overs which were cold and i believe they were not cooked to the full.

A group from my school in NE Scotland went to Strasbourg for a week and we stayed in Ciarus. It was a very good stay and I enjoyed the activities that were available in the evenings. However, the food was terrible (sorry!) -- we ate out a lot because no one liked it. Other than that, I would visit Ciarus any day!

We stayed here for one night in January and left with a few distinct impressions. Firstly it's clean -- very clean. Secondly, it's large and extremely roomy and the staff are quite pleasant. However, it lacked everything else one looks for in a hostel. Perhaps it was due to the weather (-10 and windy), however there was no atmosphere, no music, and no one else around. In fact it housed the impression of a reformed hospital or some asylum -- very sterile, very white, very quiet, and a little eerie. If all you're looking for is a quiet, clean, cheap place to stay -- this is it. Alternatively if you're looking for a party, maybe choose a different period in the year to stay here.

Very Ikea. Streamlined and simple but clean. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Two problems: — They are kind of stingy about the breakfast. Normally I like to take a little extra for lunch or a snack but these guys monitor you while you get your food — The laundry takes like five hours to finish. After two hours in the washing machine, my clothes had only JUST FINISHED the "pre-wash" cycle. I was short on time so I threw them in the dryer anyway but after another hour and a half in the dryer I only had a big heavy pile of hot wet clothes to deal with. Save yourself the trouble and find a Laundromat!!

One of the best hostels I have ever stayed at, and I have been through eight different countries and more than 25 hostels. Take my advice, it is clean, bright, well located and has one of the most complete breakfasts I have ever had. You may not realize it but there are a TV/music/game rooms downstairs. Also a locker room to leave your bags after you have checked out. They speak three languages and are amazingly clean.

This is one of the most well maintained, professional, CLEAN (even the corners in the tile showers were spotless), well thought out, comfortable (fluffy, very soft, very clean sheets and blankets), and organized hostels I have ever been to; and I have been to a lot. Unfortunately, with this organization and reputation come the inevitable large school groups of 14 year olds and their teachers! It is also somewhat devoid of personality and character, and it is quite difficult to meet people here. However, if you are looking for a very comfortable and secure location with friendly staff, this is an excellent place to spend a night.

I thought Ciarus was a great place except the food was appalling, no offense. My school stayed here when all the entertainment had passed but we still thought it was excellent. The rooms were clean and spacious, but the staff were a bit moody and anti-social. Overall though, a nice place.

It was a bit like staying in a hospital, no atmosphere at all! But I guess you could not complain about the cleanliness then. And the breakfast is ok.

The food was not too good as my school had chips everyday for dinner and tea and not a lot of choice for breakfast either, but the room was clean and the entertainment was good.
