Informe de Hostelz.com
The Salvation Army guesthouse is a convenient and economical place to stay. The Reykjavik City YHA is often full during the summer and a bus-ride away out in the suburbs so this large guesthouse is a better alternative.

The guesthouse (Hjalpraedisherinn in Icelandic) is right in the centre of 101 Reykjavik. It can be a little difficult to find at first. It is on the corner of Kirkjustraeti and Tjarnargata, but if you are in the centre of town, walk past the two main squares you can't miss it. There are two doors, neither is labelled entrance, and more often than not, on your first occasion, you'll accidentally walk into a service in the adjoining church. The congregation will not be especially welcoming to people carrying luggage into their services, but that will be the last time you encounter any unfriendliness in this place.

Each dorm has two bunk beds and the rooms are quite large. There is also a small hand towel, bar of soap, and plastic cup for each guest, which is a nice touch. Like most other budget places in Iceland, it is much cheaper if you bring your own sleeping bag. You can pay extra for a decent breakfast, but there are lots of cafes nearby so you'll have a much better variety of breakfast if you eat out. The bathrooms are quite spotless, although it does take some getting used to. The Reykjavik water has an unpleasant smell and there are not very many showers so there can be queues on some mornings.

The staff are friendly and can help with booking tours to the Blue Lagoon and elsewhere in Reykjavik and Iceland. And don't let the name "Salvation Army" put you off. It may not be a party hostel, but Reykjavik is certainly a party town, and there are plenty of bars, cafés, and clubs nearby to choose from.

Good location, reasonable hostel
This was a good, honest, unpretentious hostel, which wasn't trying hard to be cool unlike other hostels. It wasn't luxury, but hey, it's the Salvation Army so what do you expect? The location was superb, right in the centre of town, and this means you can stagger home after a late night out without any problems. The dorms were a little small, but only had four bunks in each, and the linen (which you have a one off rental fee for) was comfortable and they change your towel each day. Breakfast was the same stuff in the rest of Scandinavia (all you can eat bread/ham/cheese/jams with coffee/tea/orange juice). Staff were friendly and happy to book trips and buses.

The location of this hostel is excellent. Only a short walk to tourist info, shops, bars. The hostel itself is basic, and a bit "Old Fashioned" but we had our own toilet and sink in our room, which did make our double room a bit cramped. The showers in the corridor were always clean and the breakfast (which was included) was very good. There was a kitchen but it was very small and reasonably well equipped and during busy times it was cramped. Reykjavik is a beautiful, friendly city although a little expensive. The Salvation Army hostel is a fine place to stay if you dont mind living basic.

The main hostel in Reykjavik (Reykjavik city hostel) is cheaper then the salvation army. The only positive thing from the salvation army is the location, the rest it is just what its saying, salvation army.

I stayed at this hostel in September for 1 week - location was unbeatable (much more central than the main hostel) and the cheapest option in Reykjavik by far!! There was a small communal area on the ground floor, but most people seemed to congregate in the kitchen on the second floor. The staff were pleasant and I met some lovely people while I was staying there. If you happen to be staying there on a Saturday be sure to check out the indoor flea market which is only a couple of streets away. This place is definitely good value for money in a city where everything else is so expensive!!

The best part about this place is the location. You're right where you want to be! Very friendly service and a good crowd in the place. It has a small kitchen area, but it's within stumbling distance of all the pubs! The HI place is out of town and a far walk/bus ride. Stay here.

Hey! I went to this place two years ago and it was my first time in a youth hostel, and it was definitely an incredible first impression! The sheets were nice and clean, the kitchen wasn't shabby, and the bathrooms were so clean. The shower was so nice, clean, and warm. I got a corner room with 2 others in my family. Very nice! It's also close to a grocery store, the ocean, nightlife, and such. If you go to Iceland, check out the blue lagoon and other thermal pools! But wear a bathing cap at the blue lagoon, or your hair will be gritty from the salt for a few days.

I stayed at the Salvation Army guesthouse. It's much more convenient than the HI Hostel. Some rooms even had a kitchen. Check it out if you need a place to stay!
