The guesthouse in owned and run by the Salvation Army and the atmosphere is cosy and genuinely icelandic. The Guesthouse is situated in the middle of Reykjavik, with short distance to the main streets with shops and nightlife and a short walk to the bus terminal. There is also short distance to several cultural and historical sites. The Airport shuttel stops right outside the Guesthouse. Just tell the busdriver that you are going to stay at The Salvation Army Guesthouse, and he will take you to the door.
We can accommodate about 90 guests at a time, in single rooms, double rooms, triple rooms and sleeping bag accommodation for the low budget traveller. Toilets and showers are on every floor. The breakfast is served from 7:00 each morning, ant there are a kitchen available for the guests where they can make their own food and store their food
The Guesthouse opened in 1898 and was rebuilt in 1916. After that it has been renovated serveral times. Since The Salvation Army is the owner, there is morning prayer every day at 10 AM, and everybody is welcome to join in.
During the winter some of the rooms are hired by young people who are studiying in Iceland and for others that need accomodation for a longer period. But there are always rooms available in winter time, and the travellers live side by side with icelanders.
