There is one main reason to choose Hotel Durante. There is only one official hostel in Milan, Pierro Rotta YHA and as the review and comments on this website show, it isn't a well liked hostel.

Hotel Durante on the other hand is close to the centre (5 metro stops from the centre), in a quietish neighbourhood, kept very clean and owned by very friendly people. The reception is open 24 hours a day and they have 2-bed dorms for €21 (which is only a little more than Piero Rotta). The rooms are small but have their own shower (which takes a while to warm up) and a TV (although only Italian language channels).

If arriving by train into Milano Centrale, you can get the metro on the green line two stops to Loreto – but there are few street signs and it is difficult to get to Piazza Durante for the first time visitor. It is definitely worth changing at Loreto for the green line to Pasteur. From there it is an easy straight line walk to the hotel. You can also walk to the Hotel from the station in about 20 minutes but in bad weather or with luggage, the metro is much easier.

Whilst it is close to the centre, it is still a long walk and travelling by metro is by far the easiest – there are day tickets for €3 and 2-day tickets for €5.50 – it is common for police to be checking tickets so make sure that you always have one.

I'm going to start by stating that the staff at the hotel is really nice and I'm sure that they're trying to do their best to keep the hotel running. Also, the location of the hotel is very good and close to the attractions in Milan. With that said, I really had a bad stay at the hotel. The bed's are old, and cotlike. Even putting a plywood board would have been an improvement to the cot like spring that supported the mattress. The room that I stayed was used by smokers, and even though that the walls and the tile floors should not take smoke smell, it does permeate through the paper wall and the mattress. If you're a not smoker with asthma, like me, I would not recommend to stay in this hotel. Right now I'm still coughing and sneezing from my stay there. However, on the positive, the shower and bathroom were in working order, it had a nice terrace to the interior garden and there was a TV in the room.

Two stars is being generous. The worst night sleep of my life! The shower leaked, the rooms were really hot, and the staff didn't speak english or italian. The directions to the hostel were really confusing too. I have been to many hostels and this was the worst.

Good enough. Too expensive for what it has to offer. They tried to pass my credit card but couldn't get a connection, so I had to pay cash. I didn't really appreciate that -- they should have tried harder. Other than that, good enough location and neighborhood. Friendly staff. Good room. Weirdest bathroom ever.

Not bad, it did the job. People were nice. I stayed in midsummer. The room was VERY hot and not much chance of airflow. The double bed was two singles pushed together! Apart from that, it was clean and nice enough!

I really liked the people who run this place. They were extremely helpful and nice. My room was good too, but a double for 60 euros isn't quite hostel pricing. Luckily I had a friend to share it with. I did like the balcony we had for smoking, although we left the door open in the evening and consequently slept with a large number of mosquitoes! Other than the mosquitoes, this was a fairly nice place to stay.

On the negative side, the air in our room was somewhat humid and the window light rather low on the lower floor. On the positive side,the staff were friendly and kept the room quite clean. Good beds. The location is actually a quiet place with good breakfast possibilities in the area. We paid 70 Euro for a double, which was fair.

I stayed here for one night, and the only problem was the bathroom, which didn't have a separate place to take a bath. What I mean is that the shower was literally the whole bathroom. The staff were very nice, despite the cold water in the shower sometimes, and we were well received. I recommend this hotel.

Our room was mostly like the one pictured, but the shower cubicle was old and tatty and didn't drain well. The staff were friendly, and we could leave our luggage there until our train came. Also, it's open 24 hours a day. It's not great for a hotel, but okay as a hostel for a night or two.

You get the basic things you need: bed and private bathroom. Yet, it is really hot if you go there in summer! Also, frankly, it is not that near to the central station.

Not bad. I got a double with a bath for 50 euros. It looks like the picture, and the people who run it are nice. There's a bit of mildew on the ceiling, which wasn't much of a problem. Definitely a good option if you are traveling with others and you can split the cost.
