Informe de Hostelz.com
Lords Lodge Backpackers is a short ways out of the downtown area, but easy to get to by public transport, and is also close to St. Kilda. Chapel Street is a couple of blocks away. It's an old house that's been converted, and it's funky and interesting. The stained glass is nice.

There's an outdoor room in the front yard, with pool tables and chairs. Mostly it seems to be a place for smokers to hang out. Inside there's a huge comoon room with a big TV and people seem to utilize that room quite a lot. Reception is on that floor as well, but it's not open all hours. Call ahead and let them know when you'll be coming in anad they'll arrange to meet you. The manager lives in a room next to reception and can be easily found when it's closed. Outside is another small house where the kitchen is located, as well as the internet room. They have a computer you can use for free, at least until about 11 p.m. when that house gets locked up. There are also some private "cabins" in the backyard, and a drink machine.

Upstairs are the majority of rooms and there are several bathrooms. We had requested a private room, which was already booked, but had a dorm room to ourselves instead. The room is large, has a TV and mirrors, a couch, and chair. The room, bathrooms, and hostel as a whole are clean, but a little on the funky side, meaning you probably wouldn't design your own house in this manner, but it's comfy and friendly enough.

The bathrooms are a little funkier than the rest of the place. The toilets are in individual rooms which are a bit small, but there are a few toilet/shower combo rooms that give you a bit more room to spread out. There are some separate shower rooms as well, with a dry area before the shower area. The boathrooms are open to all -- there are no boys/girls areas.

To get there, take tram No.3-5-6-16-64 from Swanston Street, downtown Melbourne, until stop 26 and walk up Moubray Strett. You can also take the Train from the city until Prahran Train Station and walk from Chapel St. Get a tourist map before you leave the city -- it will help you find the place, which is in a residential area.

There are hostels more convenient to the city, but it's not hard getting there by public transport (you do have to walk two or three blocks). Lords Lodge is reasonably priced, safe, and clean.

Loved it!
I loved the warmest friendliest hostel in Australia. I have been backpacking for years and have stayed in hostels in every continent. I loved this place so much. It's close to St. Kilda, the trams and the train station, so the location is great. It gets cleaned three or four times a day, so for all of you "flash-packers," as hostels go, this is one of the cleanest you'll get! There is a free BBQ every Saturday which includes lots and lots and lots of Sangria, courtesy of the owner Pat -- yes he is a legend! Free wireless internet is nice when you wanna talk to your mates at home. The rooms are nice and big with plenty of storage space. There must be something up if you can't make friends here. Brilliant atmosphere, excellent staff, a true haven to come back to time and time again. Oh, you gotta love the open fire in Winter and the croquet pitch in the front garden too! I'll certainly be coming back.

Avoid!
Avoid -- dirty, dirty, dirty. Thank god we had friends who lived in Port Melbourne.

Dump
I checked in then checked out in the space of five minutes. Only stay here if you are seventeen and like living in a dump.

Awesome fun!
Lords Lodge is awesome -- fact! I stayed in a few hostels in the St Kilda area and none of them made me want to stay for more than a night. Lords is so homely and Pat is a legend! The hostel itself needs a bit of work done and not everything is bright shiny and new, but it's a beautiful turn of the century building and that brings a certain charm! The toilets are always clean and if you're lucky you will be able to stay gratis if you get a job cleaning -- not the most arduous job ever (my friend did it with a hangover every day!). The main thing is unlike other hostels there are central areas for people to hang out and get to know each other. Seriously home from home!

This hostel is ok as hostels go, but it could be a lot better. I'm twenty-one and i felt so young here, most the people here while i stayed (i was here two weeks) were late twenties up until forties. Also it's very cliquey, like everyone was in a group already and didn't really try to talk to you, even when i did go and sit with them and try to get in the conversation it was made clear i wasn't welcome really. It's not the cleanest of places, the guy who was the cleaner hoovered half the front room and then that's it, the sheets do not get changed unless someone leaves and so you're sleeping in dirty sheets if your there for a long time. the kitchen is also revolting, i cooked once and never again. the bathrooms were also very dirty and i don't think the sinks or loo ever got cleaned. i think they need someone to give the place a good old clean, i know hostels aren't meant to be perfect but i think to be clean is a must. The place was quite old and holes in the ceilings. On a good note, Patrick the guy who works there, is the most friendly guy you'll meet, really nice and helpful.

I always go back there when in Melbourne -- it is more like a large home than a hostel and people always seem to be friendly to each other -- not ignoring each other as in say a YHA. It suits all age ranges and there are heaps of things to do within walking distance.

Good place to stay, it's close to the city. It's clean, safe and it has very, very comfortable beds. The staff at this hostel will always help you. I would stay here again,

We have stayed at Lords Lodge twice, on both occasions for over two weeks, and we had a great time! It's a small, friendly hostel with great owners and it's in the best possible spot in Melbourne, very handy to everything!

We stayed at Lords Lodge and had a wonderful time. It has good facilities, a friendly and helpful staff, free Internet, and it's very clean. I highly recommend it!! I think the place has been renovated.

I visited this 'Lords Lodge', nothing more than an old house. The place is delapidated, some parts of windows missing and does not look clean. I was only too happy to leave after 1 nights stay.
