The Embassie Independent Hostel is a grand, old building just out of town and located opposite a nice, small park. It is a big hostel but it still retains a friendly atmosphere, as most likely as soon as you get in the door you will be shown a seat and given a with a cup of tea!
As there are no keys for this hostel, you have to ring the doorbell each time you go out and then wait for the staff to come and open the door (which can at times be annoying). The kitchen is old-fashioned, like most of the hostel, and tea, coffee, and toast are available for free. The dorms are fairly cramped and usually pretty full, and whilst there are no actual lockers, you can store your bag under the beds and give your precious valuables to reception to lock in the safe. Unfortunately there are no locks on the room doors which doesn't stop forgetful/drunk people wandering in!
The lounge/common room is massive and has a TV, DVD player and lots of videos and books to keep you from getting bored. There is also a common room with a pool table downstairs, and another kitchen and laundry. The bathrooms are suprisingly modern in contrast and are separated into Girls/Boys.
The staff are mostly young and seem to also be travellers, and have lots of feedback and info about the area. In such a big hostel you are bound to meet fellow travellers and be able to have a chat. The Embassie has a really laid-back (sometimes vague!) attitude and if this suits you, you are sure to have a great time here.
