Backpackers Sucre Hostel

Backpackers Hostal Sucre is located close to the centre of town, on the corner of Av Colon and Av Loa. Finding it may prove a little difficult at first as the building actually houses two hostels and the plaque on the outside refers only to the other hostel, "Hostal Cruz de Popayan". Ignore the change of name and enter regardless. There are two sets of prices for the two different hostels, the essential difference between them being that Backpackers Hostal rooms have shared bathrooms while the other hostel rooms are all ensuite, therefore making the more expensive. Also, the other hostal has no dorm rooms.

The hostel itself is large and airy. In the reception area there are some couches and a television, complete with DVD player. There are several large sunny courtyards, amply supplied with chairs and tables shaded from the sun by trees and verandahs. A kitchen-dining room is also available for guests to use.

The bedrooms are clean and comfortable, with no bunk beds, a welcome change from many hostels. Extra blankets are available if needed. The rooms aren't heated, but the walls are thick so cold shouldn't be a huge problem.

The bathrooms are clean and adequate. Note toilet paper isn't supplied, so be sure to bring your own. Towels are not included but can be hired for an extra daily fee. Showers are hot, but as with most showers in Bolivia, keep the pressure low if you want to feel the warm.

Breakfast is free and includes orange juice, tea, coffee, mate (one cup only!), plus bread and jam. Quanties are ample, and extra is available -- for a charge, of course! Breakfast is from 8am until 10am, so if you like sleeping late you'll miss out. Other facilities provided by the hostel include free internet and a travel agency.
