5   My home for 6 months and always! Arrived early in March and had work straight away. Even ended up staying longer after completing my days to save up more money. Farm work is always going to be sh*t and hard. Everyone in the hostel is in the same position which really helps. Michael, Lin, and Emma, who run the place, go out of their way to get work for people and make sure everyone is happy. They respect you as long as you treat them the same way. When the work is so hard coming home to a clean, friendly, and well-run hostel makes life a lot easier. Weekends were filled with BBQs in the nearby park, beach trips, banjos beer garden, and central night club. You spend 3-5 months with the same people and they become your family as well as Michael, Emma, and Lin! All the work is hourly paid and they will never let you get ripped off or treated badly by farmers which happens a lot in other places. I always felt at home and safe here. Was absolutely gutted to leave the place and people. Would recommend it to anyone.  , age 22, England ()
, Taiwan ()
5   Sums up farm work, cry when you arrive and cry when you leave No truer words spoken about farm work and especially this hostel. I arrived in March at about 8pm. I was working full time the next day and continued to work full time for nearly 5 months. The staff are amazing Emma, Michael and Lin And of course the bus drivers Shane and Neil. Out of my 15 months of traveling living and working here have been some of the best memories I have had. I was in triple bunk beds in a 6 bed girls dorm. We each had our own wardrobe and it was cleaned everyday and bins were emptied the bathroom is great always cleaned first thing in the morning. The kitchen is clean but busy, but same goes for every working hostel! City centre is so close to everything the park, station, supermarket and the bars. Bundaberg isnt the best place but within a few days city centre becomes your family so makes up for it. Rent was $175 a week and transport was $7 a day. If you want to work, earn money, meet amazing people, and have fun, City is the place to be.  , age 22, England ()
5   Bundys best! I arrived at the beginning of March and have honestly had the best time here. Micheal Lin and Emma have been nothing short of brilliant. The work is, as we all expect it to be, crap! But I had been lucky that my farmer was great and had a good bunch of lads to work with! Being honest no matter what farm it is the people you work with will be great. Most importantly it's hourly paid work! So back to the owners/managers. I've had friends that stayed here before when the old owners were still there and and all they had to say were bad things! Never had I any problems with the staff, show them the respect they deserve for the job they're doing and everything runs smoothly and if there are any problems it's not long before the situation is resolved. The building itself is quite old but with 100+ people in 1 building you would expect a little wear and tear! It's cleaned top to bottom everyday and never had I any problems with bed bugs or that kind of stuff. And then the people, well the only word is amazing! From the people you meet for a couple of days who are just passing thru or the people who are there for the long haul, either way they are friends. The family vibe is something I've never experienced with so many people. Good times, memories and life long friends are what will stand out the most for me. I couldn't recommend this place any more and not that I ever will do farm work again, but if I had to, it'd be a no-brainer to go back to city centre!  , age 23, Kildare, Ireland ()
5   Absolutely love this place! I arrived in Bundaberg in October14 when the old owners were there, and the place was a shambles. When Michael and Lin took over the hostel in Nov/Dec they completely changed the place for the better! The two of them and Emma the receptions are all super friendly and are there to help you in any situation, and work their absolute arses off trying to find everyone work and make sure the buses are arranged as best as possible. I stayed here for 4 months working on Grima farm which is sweet potatoes which was the hardest work I've ever done but what an amazing experience it was. I made heaps of friends here and everyone welcomes each other with open arms in to "the family." These are friends I got to share some amazing experiences with and are friends for life. Yes we all know farmwork for our 2nd year visa isn't going to be easy or fun and is a pretty sh*t situation, but it's the hostel family in city centre backpackers that will get you through it together. The hostel is a full working hostel and doesn't allow people to drink alcohol on the premises but believe me we all had a great time in Banjo's the beer garden across the road, and Central "nightclub" on the weekends so there is a good work/life balance. Wouldn't hesitate on going back to City Centre it has been by far my favourite hostel in Aus, and I'd advise anyone that's planning on going to Bundy to stay here 100%. The other hostels in Bundaberg don't provide the backpackers as much work as they do in City Centre, so don't bother with anywhere else this place is the best!  , age 21, The Valleys, Wales, UK ()
5   Great hostel with a lovely family feel Stayed at this hostel for 3 weeks and was given work the next day after arriving! Extremely friendly and helpful staff and the people staying in this hostel were all brilliant and I made friends instantly. My room was a girls only and huge, was cleaned daily as well.  , age 23, Uk ()
4   Great! What people need to realize is that the hostel's old owners are gone. This would mean a completely revamped hostel. I stayed there for five weeks and gotta say it was a great experience. Extremely clean (entire hostel is cleaned practically every day) and spacious with several "hostel amenities," such as a widescreen TV with hundreds of films to watch, a ping pong/pool table, board games, soda machine, air conditioning in all rooms. There are locks at the hostel entrance and at every dorm's door, so it always felt safe there. Great place if you're looking for farm work too; you are hired for $20/hour at every farm, which is great if you're looking to save some money. The hostel, which is a "working hostel," takes care of finding a job and setting it all up for you. All you need to do is complete some quick paperwork. If you get employed full-time -- which many do -- you can save up money for your next adventure really quickly here. It is hard work though, so be prepared! Greatest of people here too and many nights were spent at the beer garden right across the street. In fact, you will find that most things are just a few minutes' walk away. The location is perfect, right in the center of the city (City Centre, duh!). If you arrive with the train, it is literally the first thing you see when walking out of the train station! Overall a really great place. I loved it. If I ever came back to Bundaberg, I wouldn't hesitate a second to come back here. Really, if you're planning to stay in Bundaberg, just check the place out and give it a chance. Speak to the staff (they're super friendly), check out the premise, and interact with some of the other backpackers. You won't be disappointed!  ()
5   Excellent After 2 weeks in a bad working hostel in Bundaberg, I found the city centre. Michael and all the staff were very welcome with me and gave only the best jobs. All jobs are hourly pay. City centre is the best place for make friends, your 2 visa days and money.  , age 28, belgian ()
1   Worst hotel ever Keep away from this hostel, we spent 1 week at this place. 10h of work in a week and then, noting. Owners are really aggressive, violent with backpackers (he punch in the face one of the guy), take some stuff from the people who live there, the place is always dirty ... Sh*tty place, stay away from this horrible hostel.  , England ()
3   Not so bad as many people say We were there in 1998 for 3 months. Bob and Emma where maybe a bit grumpy but they offered us a job as hostel cleaners when we were out of job. "Clean the hostel for free staying." We got a free 2-dorm room and they gave once a week a free sausage-sizzle for all the guests. We had a wonderful time in this hostel and met great people!  , age 40, The Netherlands ()
