Linda, Linda, Linda - the shining star of Donegal and its hostel. Linda and her husband own/run the place, and she will make you feel like you are her long-lost progeny, returning to the fold. After she introduces you to everyone staying there (including Scooby the soft springer spaniel) and gets the brief history of your life, she will find out your plans for the area, and make helpful recommendations / suggestions. You may never leave your new home!
The hostel is just outside of town - if you come in the main road off the N15 past the Donegal Craft Village and pass the tourist shop on the left, make your first left at 'The Diamond' (note the large obelisk dedicated to the Four Masters). Donegal Castle will be on your right. Cross over the River Eske, and make the first left at the roundabout. You will be on the Killybegs road, and the hostel will be on your right (and there's a big sign).
This house is exquisitely clean and has many toilets and showers. The dorm rooms are spacious and brightly colored. Linens are provided. Despite being on a main road, the house is very quiet. The kitchen/dining area is fairly small, so when groups roll in, it's hard to find a spot to sit or cook. There's a common room with old comfortable furniture, and a mini-library where you can exchange books. Telephone, but no internet (there's a cafe in town on 'the Diamond'). The only downside is it's a bit of a hike to the pubs -- but since you'll know everyone, you can probably swing a lift!
Some guide books say it's open only during the summer months, but Linda assures me it's open year-round!
