Hotel Colors

I thought Colors was a pretty good hostel when i arrived. Looked clean, nice staff. However this was the hostel in my trip where I got scabies -- for those that don't know what that is, its a kind of skin lice. Very awful. And it had to be this hostel -- others i met had the same problem. So if you stay here bring your own sheets and use them.

This place was great. They had a good kitchen, the bathrooms were clean and the atmosphere friendly. On my first night I had told them I would be arriving at 10.30pm but got delayed and had no way of calling ahead to say I would be late. Hence when I arrived at midnight I was terrified I would find myself sleeping on the doorstep. Thankfully however someone had waited for me. Unlike other people on this site I found the staff to be friendly, good with a map and directions. Air conditioning is only turned on at night however and is switched off first thing in the morning. Highly recommended.

this hostel was pretty clean, especially the bathroom. however, the staff just ruined it for us. my friend was trying to use the phone at the desk with a prepaid calling card and the person who was working walked in and freaked out on him. when we got up the next morning we were told that we couldnt leave our bags at the hostel because one of us was "rude to the staff." so, we had to lug our packs around rome and we were planning on going to the vatican. they basically ruined our whole day. if you can avoid this plce, do it. only stay here if there is nowhere else to go.

Very very verry nice hostel located in a neighbourhood with the real italians, not only tourists. We stayed in the 5p dorm, met nice people and had a real good time at the balcony. They also have a kitchen with everything you need.

Great location and very friendly staff but they do have an age limit for the dorms (it's their right, I suppose) and offer private rooms as an alternative. These are basic, to say the least, with shared facilities, no breakfast, not even a picture on the wall and cost almost three times as much as the dorm beds. It would be ok in an emergency but there is much better to found for that price if you look around. And you don't have to look very far for a hostel without an ageist policy!

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times... The hostel itself is good, clean, and with good showers. The staff — overall — were helpful and quick with the street map and highlighter. The kitchen closes too early and there is no other common place to sit and share. When it's time to go to bed, it's time. Unless you want to walk around St. Peter's late at night. (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!) I met some great people on the kitchen terrace. Now, the bad. To make a long story short: Two female hostelers checked out. They went out for food and a walk with a fellow hosteler and me. It was getting late and most places were closed. They had to pee and followed us in while we dropped off our cameras and prepared to go right back out. All together, four minutes, in and out. The night guy called the owner after we walked out, said we were there for an hour, making excessive noise, even showering! In all truth, HE LIED. The next morning I was awakened early by the staff telling me I was being kicked out immediately. After I explained myself, the owner let me stay but kicked out the other fellow who opened the door for them. I had already paid for the day but was so turned off by the lies and the rude awakening, that I packed and left any way. So...good hostel, bad liar. Avoid the night watch guy, and never, ever, let a lady use the bathroom, if even for a minute.

Colors was an awesome place to stay because it was super close to Vatican City, and we walked everywhere from the hostel. It only took about 30 minutes to get to the Trevi Fountain and less than an hour on foot to get to the Coliseum. This was really important to us since we were on a small budget. The hostel was super clean and the staff was really friendly. The kitchen is a little small but it's clean and so we can't complain. They should keep the terrace open later, though. It's also in a really safe area as far as we could tell and we had no problems walking around late at night. I loved Rome and Colors Hostel made it all the better!!

A really nice hostel, although my friend and I stayed in Hotel Benjamin on the first floor (they're run by the same people). It was clean and a decent price for Rome. The staff were really nice, and the kitchen upstairs in Colors was better than the one in Benjamin (which was limited to a microwave) but both were very nice. It's close to the Vatican and most other attractions in Rome, and walkable if you don't mind walking a kilometer or two. I would definitely stay here again!

We were very pleased with this hostel! If you enjoy visiting with other travelers, but also appreciate some peace and quiet at times, this is the hostel for you. The location is great, and no further than Termini for most main attractions. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the rooms were well-kept, and there are two eating areas, plus a fun terrace to visit or eat on. It was only 2 euros more than the hostels in Termini, which are crowded and often dirty and not very secure.

I absolutely loved Colors!!! It was so clean, in a beautiful location, with super-friendly staff. Even the stairs or the walk to the metro was okay (and I'm not one of those fit people, either). It was the worth the effort to get there! I would absolutely go back to Colors over any other hostel I've stayed in all over Europe. Keep up the excellent work, guys!

One of the best hostels I've stayed in during my trip around Italy. Staff are extremely friendly, and the whole place is very clean. The kitchen's well-equipped (with free tea and coffee). The only bad thing is that they close the terrace and kitchen at 11 p.m., leaving no other common area where guests can interact.

This is one of the nicest hostels ever! The staff are friendly, the bathrooms are clean, and the beds are comfy. It's situated amongst very good shops, is close to the Vatican and not too far from Rome's main attractions. Plenty of information is around on the various tours available - enjoy Rome in a very good company! I can't wait to return.

This is a very pleasant, small, friendly hotel/hostel. The staff were helpful and welcoming and the place was clean and well looked after. It's painted in bright colours, hence the name. There is a nice little kitchen where cereal, tea, coffee etc are provided free of charge, and you can cook your own meals if you wish. There is also a pleasant roof terrace. It has the atmosphere of a small hotel rather than a large impersonal hostel. It's a short walk from the Vatican, and the centre of Rome is walkable in about 15-20 minutes. The only disadvantages are: 1. There is quite a lot of traffic noise (although this is probably much the same in most of Rome) but the windows in my room rattled quite loudly. I went in March but if you had to keep the windows open in summer you would definitely need earplugs. 2. It's quite a long walk to the tube station, ok if you're unladen but a bit of a struggle with luggage. 3. It's up about four or five flights of stairs so not for the unfit! Overall a lovely place though.
