East Hostel is one of the most beautifully renovated hostels that we have seen, and staying there is such a nice experience that you may be tempted to visit Bucharest again, just for the pleasure of staying there. The young couple who own the hostel are on site twenty-four/seven and go out of their way to make guests feel welcome and to keep a quiet atmosphere so that everyone can get a good night's sleep. They are also extremely helpful when it comes to making arrangements for taxis to the airport and helping guests to find places around town. There's free internet and Wi-Fi, and the free breakfast includes stacks of fried eggs, cold cuts, bread and jam, and cake!
Location
East Hostel is conveniently located within walking distance of the Gara da Nord train and metro station as well as many of the central attractions that the city has to offer. The only drawbacks are that there is no sign on the building to indicate that there is a hostel there, so you may question whether you've arrived at the right place (but ring the bell and your questions will soon vanish) and the neighborhood might require a little extra awareness at night.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorm rooms have comfy wooden bunks with not a lot of extra room for anything else, but there are lockers for your possessions, and there are beautiful art deco ceilings and funky ceramic tiled heaters to add elegance and charm (and heat). The bathrooms are one of the highlights of the hostel -- super-mod fixtures, and everything is sparkling clean.
Common Areas
The common area has a couple of comfy couches, a computer with internet, plenty of spaces to plug in your own laptop, and even a spare desk at which to set yourself up. The kitchen is well equipped and roomy and is a good place to meet other travelers.
Summary
If there is such a thing as a boutique hostel, then East definitely fits into that category. We really enjoyed staying here!
