Meininger City Hostels - Meininger Straße

Some minor issues, but overall great
This hostel is located in a nice neighborhood, easy to find, good transportation links. The staff are very friendly. Clean rooms, clean bathrooms, good breakfast. My only complaints are that the walls are very thin, and the women's showers are basically communal. There are a bunch of shower heads along a wall, with one drainage hole, and just a flimsy curtain separating the areas. I personally was not overly bothered by the thin walls or showers, as I have just returned from there and the hostel seemed pretty quiet. However, during busier times of the year, these issues may be a problem.

Have stayed here twice now in the last three months and would have to say close to the best value for money i've experienced in the last eight months of traveling. clean and quiet, in a beautiful neighbourhood, with great breakfast in the morning. adequate kitchen and entertainment facilities (DVDs available, pool, TV room, internet, magazines). Staff are generally very helpful and informative about the surrounding neighbourhood and the city of berlin, although one girl who works there is consistently quite cool with hostel stayers. Internet is a bit expensive, but there are a number of internet cafes nearby. All in All, the best hostel i've experienced in berlin.

Great Place to Stay!
This was a great place to stay. very clean, awesome breakfast, very social atmosphere.

This was a grand place to stay altogether and I would have no problem recommending it to anybody, especially the lone traveller. I had a single room for three nights and it was bright, airy, clean, and cosy. There was a sink in the room and toilet/shower just around corner. I felt like I had my floor to myself and although there was some school parties about they certainly never disturbed me. I have definitely stayed in far worse! Breakfast was substantial and as good as you'd get in more expensive establishments. One day it kept me going for eleven hours before I felt any hunger pangs! The surrounding area is pleasant (JFK's speech was made literally around the corner) and felt safe even late at night. Although it is not in the Mitte transport links are not really a problem -- keep an eye out for the M48 bus from near Potsdamer Platz -- will save you a train change or two. I was in town for a "blitz" sightseeing visit so was out of the hostel all day and did not require it for socializing purposes and found it ideal for my purposes. Staff were 99.9% friendly but one of the girls is a bit sour. There is an Aldi two blocks away so you can stock up on treats for when you get back after a hard day hitting the streets and then get in to that comfy bed. So that's it. this is a good functional hostel and there is absolutely no reason why you should not stay here. there are no nasty surprises and it is value for money. I wouldn't have bothered writing all this if I thought it was a bad place. Enjoy Berlin...and don't forget to have a few beers when you're up the TV tower!

Great place for the price. Location was out of the way, but with the night buses it was accessible if you could be bothered. Breakfast was a feast each morning, could last you all day. Only problem was that we had to constantly change our dorms every few nights. A bit annoying, but not that huge a deal. No real common room area, so you didn't really meet people unless it was in your dorm or over breakfast. Clean and the staff were all really sweet and friendly, except for one girl. If it was in a better location, it would be near perfect. Although one key per dorm was a bit weird, anyone could have just walked in and stolen stuff (though for some reason the hostel seemed really safe and this was never an issue).

Clean, lots of natural light in the rooms, generally friendly area. Common room isn't as open for socializing, but you're in Berlin! Go out and enjoy the city! Breakfast was all you can eat and generally pretty good. Would stay here again for sure.

Very crowded. Lots of noisy school parties. Some people athe reception unfriendly and unhelpful. Only one washbasin (with only cold water on top of that) for all the people from the dormitories. I was, myself in a thirteen-bed dorm! Some good things -- the buffet breakfast. Clean environment. Clean sheets. Location ok. They told me I would get ten- minute free internet access if I posted a good comment about them!

Apart from a couple lame roommates, this hostel was totally fly! I looked forward to breakfast every morning because it was so satisfying and the staff were very friendly. The location was outside the city center, but it just made us learn more about the city, which is just really cool.

Excellent hostel. I've never stayed at such a great place. Even though it was a hostel, it was like a hotel. :) The staff were so nice and kind. They helped me a lot! The room were really clean (they clean the rooms every morning). Breakfast was good. The security was also great. There's nothing I can complain about. I would like to stay here again. :)

Immaculate! This was the cheapest hostel at which I stayed during my entire 5-week trip around western Europe, and one of the best and cleanest. It was just like staying at a hotel. The staff were also super nice.

I was there 3 times for at least 5 days. It was the best hostel in the town.

We were directed here after complications at the original hostel - the best mistake we ever made. They have great rooms, it's clean, there's a friendly staff, nice pub garden, movie room, cold beers - what more can you want?

I am from London England, and stayed here November 2002. The hostel was ideally placed for visiting Berlin and I found the facilities to be perfect for my needs. The staff were friendly and the rooms clean, but the best bit was the all-you-can-eat breakfast! For the money, this place is fantastic!

I am from Melbourne Australia. I was in Berlin June 2002. This hostel was perfect! Hoping to stay in the London one in a couple of years. It hadn't opened as of last year!
