Informe de Hostelz.com
If you are looking for a place near the main train station to get in and out early in the morning or late at night, Hostel Pensione Mancini may be a good option. The train station can be easily reached on foot.

The hostel is located in the middle of a busy and crowded market in Piazza Garibaldi. Look for the big sign of the hostel on the street before reaching the supermarket at the end of the street. The sign can be easily missed since the street is overcrowded with market vendors and people. The surrounding neighborhood is absolutely noisy, filthy, and hectic. Perhaps it might give you a sense of truly being in the core of Naples. However, for the price of dorm room, the hostel does not offer the fullest comparable services.

It is a small hostel run by a family. They have three rooms for the dorm rooms. Each room has different number of beds (no bunk beds). The hostel description indicates that dorm rooms come with free lockers, however, the two dorm rooms on one wing do not have any lockers. There is only one bathroom and toilet for everyone. But because of the hostel's small size, it's manageable. It's not immaculately clean -- some soap scum on the tiles -- but fairly good for old European buildings.

There is no separate common space, but the kitchen serves the both purposes. It's sufficiently roomy and cozy. It is fully equipped to cook and hang out with people to chat. Free breakfast is provided from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. According to their brochure, free cappuccino, espresso coffee, and hot chocolate are available for breakfast, but they were not available when we asked for it in the morning. They do provide instant coffee for breakfast though.

There is one computer for free internet for guests. However, no wireless internet is available at the hostel. As it is a family business, you see the same folks at the reception and around the hostel. The staff come across as unfriendly, perhaps as a result of the cultural difference or maybe something else. Although some of the staff do not speak English very well, they seem to be concerned about the safety of their guests. Upon request, they provide helpful advice and tips about Naples.

Overall, the rooms are decently clean, and the hostel offers basic services of typical hostels. Its close location to the main train station can be ideal for some travelers. If you don't mind being in the center of busy, seedy, noisy, and filthy area of the city, this hostel may offer a decent place for a short stopover to meet other people and explore the city center.

4 Good, for Naples, very good.
For naples it's good. general advice is simply dont go to naples. but if you have to this is a good hostel. warning -- dont arrive at night, the place is really sketchy at night. also note:, hostel on left hand side when arriving from train station. hard to see gate and sign. you have to cross a very busy, traffic-clogged square first.

5 I spent two nights here, with a week's stay in between somewhere at the coast further up. Everything was ok. I made reservations long before and it was all there. I slept there with my son and wife in a (small) room, where an extra bed was made. The shower was around the corner, you may have to wait your turn, but it was clean. Also it was cheap (Eur.67/night for three people in one room, May 4 and May 12, 2007), including a funny breakfast-like thing. Being outside is another story, but you must realise that Naples is like a living animal and you just have to jump into the city's bloodstream to have an unforgettable experience.

4 It's very close to the main train station, and easy to get to from the airport. The area is a bit dodgy, but I felt safe in the hostel. There were lockers in the rooms, and the beds and bathrooms were clean. There was lots of information available and the staff was helpful and friendly, although one of them did have the tendency to come into our room to chat at random moments. There are several pizza places nearby, and a big supermarket a couple buildings away.

4 If you're going to Pompeii, Sorento or the Amalfi coast in general, Naples is the place to start, and this hostel is great. Lelo is awesome. The hostel is in kind of a sketchy place, I mean where in Naples isn't? However the hostel is very welcoming, safe and clean, the owner is very knowledgeable and kind, it's a cozy place, clean and relaxing, and ask about Da Michele and Trianon, best pizza in Naples. So if you're going to Naples stay here, it's near the train station, but my advice is to not go to Naples.

5 Great place!! The owner and other staff were the most helpful out of any hostel I have been to. They explained the city, where to go, where to eat, and what to do. The beds/toilet/rooms were very clean. They also have a TV in each room, which is good when it rains. I met many good people there, and I highly recommend it. P.S. I have some pictures from there. I have also stayed at hostels in Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Cinque Terre, Venice, and Dublin. So if you need a recommendation where to or where not to stay send me an e-mail... Dodgecoltracer@aol.com

5 Awesome. The staff were great, very knowledgeable about everything, especially movies, Italy, train schedules.... and probably my calculus homework, but I didn't ask. It's close to the trains, easy to find, and open all night long. Two thumbs way up.

5 "Lelo," as he calls himself, is the Italian owner of the Hostel Pensione Mancini. He is the main reason for staying here. Without him, it would be pleasant, with all the usual services, but not quite the same. He is "spiritoso," a jovial, funny, warm guy who laughs at himself most of the time. The hostel is quite small, but therefore quite cosy. It has been a sort of refuge for me these last few rainy days of February 05 and I would recommend it to anyone who seeks a place to stay in Naples with character.

5 The hostel is good and clean, and the owner is friendly. We got free maps, a suggestion to visit a good place, and the location is not too far from the station. You can store your luggage here after check out and pick it up later when you are going to another place. Compared to other hostels during our stay in Italy, the breakfast was very poor — only one piece of bread and a half cup of chocolate or coffee.

5 Wow! What a class act! Not only does the Hostel Mancini have clean rooms, a great location (just a few blocks from Da Michelle and the best pizza in Italy!), and the most impressive coffee machine we've ever seen, but the proprietor is a true gentleman and a man of his word. When we wrote to ask if we'd left a wristwatch in our room after checking out, he wrote back that he'd found the watch and mailed it home to us in the States! Thanks, Hostel Mancini!

5 This hostel is safe, friendly and clean with helpful staff. Naples is a fascinating city - visit with an open mind. The pizza is out of this world.

4 I was a bit unsure of the street on arrival but the hostel is so close to everything. The staff are so helpful and this is the only hostel where I received a map and an overview of the place on arrival. They are happy to answer lots of questions and give advice. Thanks.

3 This was a good, clean hostel, with welcoming drink (fruit juice) on arrival, and English-speaking staff. It's in a secure building, considering it's situated in perhaps the dirtiest, seediest, and most dangerous European city I've ever been to. Privacy during the daytime was limited: I needed rest when I arrived but the staff (the owner, I think) kept wandering in and out of the room. He was blatantly bored as hell, and insisted on keeping the room door open. In the dorm I stayed in there was an Internet terminal, which meant there were random people walking in whenever to use it. The toilet was in another dorm, which meant me wandering there to use it. Both circumstances resulted from the hostel's cramped lodgings. It was good for socializing, I suppose, but a bit of a nuisance. On arrival, keep an eye out for the huge Pensione Mancini sign outside, which is easy to miss when you have to pass through a busy market to get to the place, thinking about the wallet in your pocket. Overall, the hostel is clean and recommended, but steer clear of Naples if you have the option — it's not a nice place.

4 The location of this hostel near the train station is a little seedy, but once you get to this small, clean, and safe hostel you feel like you are at home. The staff are great! They will give you suggestions on where to go, and will organize day trips for you. I am very happy about this hostel.

4 This was a very good hostel in a good location for day trips to Pompei and Sorrento. It's good also because the staff was very friendly, not only to us, but with all the guests. They were always ready to tend to all our needs. There were large, shared dorms with private showers and safe lockers. No curfew! Breakfast could have been a little better.... We will reccommend it!
