Roberts Hostel

Hello fellow traveller and backpacker,

Let me tell you here on our Expose` something about how this became the very first independent country hostel in Germany to date. On a motorcycle tour in Ireland in1995, we were somewhat less than enthusiastic about the camping facilities because of the abominable summer weather that year. What happened was that we ended up in various independent hostels to get some dry accommodation. Then we had the idea to build up something like this in Germany.

The next two years we spent a lot of time looking for a suitable building.

It was really quite interesting listening to some estate agents demanding totally unrealistic prices. Nothing quite filled the bill: either too small, too expensive, unsuitable, too many repairs necessary, too many neighbours, hire or rent conditions out of this world or maybe a monster transformer behind the house which made neon tubes glow without having to plug them in anywhere.

But in September 1996 I found an old country guesthouse here in Hohenmoor which has been closed since 1960. I bought it. There followed three years of really hard work to renovate the old place from its 1910 condition.

Another problem which followed us was the German administrative regulations which seem to cover everything except when you can go to the toilet ? and sometimes even that.

Yes we are! Since May 2000 this is Robert`s Hostel.

Opening hours: from Monday to Friday at 2 pm, Saturday and Sunday at 10 am or agreement
