Hostel Llullu Llama Reviews

Description

Llullu Llama is a converted tradtional farmhouse with thick adobe walls which was completely restored in April 2013 by the new owners. The eco-hostel has a composting toilet outside, recycling of water for the garden and other wates and active heating systems. We also destinate 5% of our profits on accommodation to local development projects, so with your stay you are also helping our community to grow!
The hostel currently has 4 private rooms, 4 semi-private rooms and a dorm. Bathroom and showers are shared, but are very comfortable and clean. The communal facilities include a dining area, sitting area with wood stoe, cosy board games area, a bar and a lovely garden outside. In our cuisine we use mostly products like milks, eggs, vegetables and fruits purchased from our neighbors to stimulate local economy. We bake our own bread and our cook prepares healthy tasty meals.
The village of Isinlivi is a small (250 inhabitants) community with both primary and high schools, and a training woodwork shop turning out spectacular works in beautiful woods. We have great trail maps and hikes to local traditional markets, preInca remains, ridgetop antennas and rock outcrops, deep canyon valleys, lakes and local farms.

Location and Contact

Location

• From Quito
• If you are coming from Quito there are two ways to get to Hostal Llullu Llama:
• 1) By bus. There are buses every half an hour from the Quitumbe bus station in the south of Quito to the city of Latacunga. From Latacunga there are buses that can take you to Sigchos or directly to Isinlivi. If you take the bus to Sigchos, you can hike from there to the Hostel for about 3 hours through beautiful landscapes. The bus schedules from Latacunga to Sigchos and Isinlivi are as follow:
• Latacunga-Sigchos (via Saquisili and Toacazo)
• 03.30 Nac Saquisili (Sat and Sun)
• 09.30 Nac Saquisili
• 10.00 Reina Sigchos (Mon-Sat)
• 12.00 reina Sigchos
• 14.00 Reina Sigchos
• 16.00 reina Sigchos (Mon-Sat)
• 17.00 Reina Sigchos (except Sat)
• 17.00 Nac Saquisili (Sat)
• Latacunga – Insinlivi (via Guingopana)
• 11.00 Vivero (Thu & Sat)
• 13.00 Vivero (Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri)
• 15.00 Vivero (Sun)
• 2) By car. You need a good car, preferably 4×4, a good road map, and you must be able to ask your way around in Spanish. Never do this road on your own after dark – it’s unpaved, no signs telling you where to go, so it’s not easy to find. A general idea of the route:
• Between Quito and Latacunga, you leave the Pan American Highway at Lasso, direction Toacazo. After Toacazo you head for Sigchos, or find the most direct way over the pass at Cerros Guinopana. This way is beautiful, but the hardest to find. In Sigchos you go to the main plaza, from there you go down and left for the road to Isinliví (ask!) that takes you down to the Toachi river, across a cement bridge, and then up again.
• From Cotopaxi National Park:
• If you are coming from the Cotopaxi National park there are also two ways to get to Hostal Llullu Llama.
• 1) At the entrance of the National Park you can take a so called Coto-taxi to take you to Isinlivi, which is an almost 2 hour drive. The Coto-taxi charges $60 per transfer for up to 4 persons.
• 2) You can take any bus that stops in Latacunga right at the Panamerican Highway. It takes about half an hour to arrive to Latacunga and from there you can take the bus to either Sigchos or to Isinlivi directly - see bus schedules above.
• PRIVATE TRANSFERS:
• We can also help arrange a private transfer from either Quito, Cotopaxi or Latacunga. Please contact us for details and pricing.
