Destil Hostel is in fact a bar/hostel combo in its own building in a pleasant garden.

The Location

Destil Hostel is located in Tirana, Albania. It's close to the center and the popular and upscale Blloku neighbourhood (or simply, "The Block"). It is within a nice garden and the entrance floor is mainly dedicated to the popular cafe-bar with the same name. It has both indoor and outdoor seating and workspaces and during the day full of young people studying. At night it transforms into a trendy bar with occasional concerts. It is a very trendy venue among locals.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorms and private rooms occupy the second floor of the building; this is the actual hostel proper. Dorms and private rooms have their own bathrooms with toilet and shower. Due to the popularity of the downstairs bar, rooms can be more than a bit noisy, especially on weekends. But on the upside, you are just one flight of stairs away from discovering a really cool local band you have never heard of, or hitting it off with real local people enjoying the show, and not just meeting other travelers like yourself.

Bathrooms are nothing spectacular, but they are clean, so that is more than acceptable. One issue we had is that there was a mild pesticide smell during our stay -- probably because the room was recently fumigated. But it is only an issue if you are sensitive or allergic to such things.

Common Spaces

One other issue with the hostel that makes it less than perfect is that only common area is the cafe-bar downstairs. While it is lovely, it might be awkward if you just want to chill and hang out without ordering anything to eat or drink. But also, they might be ok with it since you are already a guest at the hostel. This is also where the complimentary breakfast is served everyday.

Summary

All in all, Destil is a pretty good hostel with clean rooms and tidy beds. The noise can be a problem for light-to-medium sleepers. But on the upside, the bar is actually a really cool place to hang out, and if you are lucky you might even catch a concert as well.
