Açaí Hostel Reviews

Açaí Hostel Salvador is an old building in the center of Pelourinho (Salvador de Bahia, Brazil). The spaces are not well maintained but they are functional. The best part are the dorm rooms. The neighbourhood is really safe and the streets are crowded by police officers, so you feel really safe.

The Location

The hostel is located in the Colonial center of Salvador de Bahia, surrounded by old and colorful buildings. You can reach all the touristic points, restaurants, bars, and gift shops very easily on foot. It's thirty minutes away from the main transit station and there are urban buses that you can pay to take near the hostel. If you arrive by boat you need to take and elevator and walk ten minutes to reach the hostel. You can find a big supermarket fifteen minutes away, but next to the hostel there's a little shop where you can find everything you need for cooking.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The hostel has dorm rooms of four and eight people. All the rooms have bunk beds of two, and each bed has a light, three plugs, curtain, a big locker, and a little one for valuable things. All the rooms are air conditioned. The hostel has a big bathroom with two showers, two toilets, and two sinks.

Common Spaces

The hostel has three floors. On the ground and the first floors there are the rooms and bathrooms. The top floor there's the reception, the dining room, the living room with a TV and a computer, the kitchen, and a big terrace with a sofa and some tables and chairs where you can chill and relax. The common areas are too small for the number of people the hostel can host. The kitchen is not well equipped (it only has a couple of dishes, a couple of glasses and some cups, and two stoves).

Summary

Açaí Hostel is a good place to stay if you are looking for a calm and private stay in the room. It's difficult to meet other people, because the common areas are too small and the people remain in the rooms. The Wi-Fi signal works well in the common areas but in the rooms it's too low. It has twenty-four-hour reception.

Location and Contact

Location

• Rua do Passo, 7 - Pelourinho - Salvador/BA - Brazil
• AIRPORT by Bus:
• Leave the airport and go through the parking lot to find the bus stop. Take the bus to ‘Praca da Sé’ stop (R$3,70). From Praça da Sé bus stop, first walk to the square Terreiro de Jesus. Walk further down to the square Largo do Pelourinho. From here you walk down and take the second street on the left side up (the street just after the police van). There will be a sign calling the street ‘Rua Ribeiro dos Santos’. Don’t worry you’re in the right place, it’s the old name of it. (the total walk is about 800 meters).
• BUS STATION by Bus:
• Walk the high passway until the local bus station. Take the ‘Barroquinha’ bus (R$3,70) and get out at the ‘Ricardo Eletro’ bus stop, in the ‘Baixa dos Sapateiros’ street. Ricardo Eletro is a red store, easy to recognize, but we recommend you to ask the bus driver or assistant to tell you when to get out. From Ricardo Eletro store you just walk towards Pelourinho (50 meters walk). Don’t go left up to the square, but take a right and immediately left (you will see a police stand; the street is on the right side of them). You will see Rua do Passo street, the hostel is by the side of the police parking garage. There will be a sign calling the street ‘Rua Ribeiro dos Santos’. Don’t worry you’re in the right place, it’s the old name of it.
• Any by UBER or TAXI or OWN TRANSPORT (recommended between 11PM and 5AM):
• Ask for the taxi to bring you to Rua do Passo street. Through ‘Baixa dos Sapateiros’ street he will turn right at the red Ricardo Eletro Store and head to Rua do Passo.
• From the Airport: UberX ~R$45 / Taxi ~R$80.
• From the Bus Station: UberX ~R$20 / Taxi ~R$30
• *** Negotiate the price with the Taxi driver before you enter the car and if they don’t accept, look for another taxi, they will end up accepting.
