Get to know Skradin (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Skradin.

Skradin, Croatia, is a small town on the Krka River; it's probably most well known for being next to Krka National Park (a gorgeous park with waterfalls you can swim in). There aren't any hostels in Skradin, Croatia -- only hotels, guest houses, rooms for rent, and camping. However, Sibenik is a couple of miles away and offers a variety of hostels and easy bus transportation to and from Skradin. During high season (the end of June through August), be sure to book in advance (especially if you are there on the first Saturday in August, during a music festival).

Skradin is small, so it is easy to see everything on foot (although, if you don't feel like walking, you can always rent a bike); there are beautiful churches and fortresses, a clock tower, beaches on the river, and a marina. If you enjoy gastronomy, there is plenty to choose from in terms of restaurants and small markets, and even a few wineries.

If you are planning on going to Krka National Park (which shouldn't be missed), a ferry runs between Skradin and the park each hour and is free. If you are a student, don't forget your student ID, as the park offers discounts to students! If on a budget, it is also wise to bring a water bottle and pack a picnic lunch, as the food prices in the park are very high. There are footpaths throughout the park that run along the waterfalls. Unlike Plitvice, you can swim in the waterfalls (in designated areas).

You should be able to find a bed in a hotel, guesthouse, or room for rent in Skradin or a hostel in a nearby town like Sibenik throughout the year if you make a reservation a little bit in advance. Keep in mind that July and August are high season in Croatia, so it is best to book further in advance during those months.
