"To find Rucksacks Hostel, walk from the central bus station north to Bath Street, and turn left. Continue for quite some distance (longer than the directions from their website would imply) and cross over a highway. The hostel can be found just down the street from the highway, across from the library (where you can access the internet for free.) There is a purple flag out front of the hostel,...
"I love Bunkum -- it's not filthy. It's not a five star hotel -- it is what it is, the owners are both friendly in their own way perhaps, I stayed at Bunkum for a month and had a great time." … "For what it's worth Bunkum Backpackers is a nice laid-back hostel in a beautiful area of town, close to the art gallery, Queen Margaret Universty, and the Kelvin River Walkway system. I've stayed...
"This place is good and friendly." … "Generally satisfactory, just went at the wrong time! - Unfortunately timed my stay to coincide with when the cook who did the morning breakfasts in the coffee shop was ill. At the same time the television was out of order. The staff were generally very helpful, and the rest of the advertised facilities were available, but twenty-four/seven hostels can...

"This is a small independent hostel just by the M8 (motorway). Just a small sign outside the door tells you that you are at the right place, and when you get inside there's nothing to tell you that you actually entered the right door (except for the fact that there's only one door). There's no real reception and you can't tell the staff from the guests in any way. (Maybe you can if you remember...
"In recent years, Glasgow has successfully reinvented itself as Scotland's cultural powerhouse, with some of the best-financed and most imaginative museums and galleries in Britain. Scotland's largest city boasts world famous architecture: Alexander 'Greek' Thompson and Charles Rennie Mackintosh are two of its famous sons and their works have been recently joined by the 'Armadillo' and the new...

"Upon arriving at Bluesky Independent Hostel after a long flight, the hostel was deserted except for a sleeping person on a futon in the lounge. She turned out to be one of the staff, but there's no desk or other indication that you're where you need to be. I checked my email -- the only free internet I found in Scotland -- while waiting for someone more alert to show up. The sleeping...

"The facilities and room were great once we found it. It is tucked away, not actually on the University's campus, which was very confusing. We drove around for a long time trying to find it, as it is also not signed well. Once we found it, we enjoyed our stay. The room was big and the showers were very clean. They provided towels which was nice as well." … "I got lost every time I tried to...

Glasgow Travel Tips & Suggestions

The nightlife is great, but I think Glasgow is a very industrial city -- not so beautiful as other cities in Scotland. I didn't like it at all, and I do not recommend visiting the city if you're looking for something more than parties, pubs, and discos.

Glasgow is the best!

All the galleries and museums have no admission charges. There are lots of bars that have no charges for student music scenes at night and in the afternoon. This is a student city paradise. It is also really friendly -- nobody talks to you in Germany like they do in Glasgow.

Glasgow is simply great. The west end with Botanic Gardens and Glasgow University, the east end with the old town and the Cathedral and the City Center for shopping, beautiful greens... A very friendly people and the Week of the World Pipe Band Championships in August.

Glasgow is a great city with plenty to do both during the day and at night. The vast majority of museums are free, the shopping is second only to London, and the people are very friendly and helpful. At night, pubs and clubs along Sauchiehall Street offer cheap drink promos and often free entry during the week. The west end is beautiful, with great parks, architecture and more sophisticated nightlife. Go if and when you get the chance.

Glasgow is a very friendly city, if you stay in the right parts! I drifted a bit away from the main central area and the reception wasn't so friendly at all! But I would definitely return to Glasgow as I found that after my visit there was still so much I wanted to do and so many nice people I would love to meet again!

The Mitchell Library has a books cafe and great exhibitions (the current one is Italian artists), and also it offers 60 free internet computers. It's near all the West End hostels in the Berkeley /Charing Cross district.

Nightclubs in and around Charing Cross are generally free Monday through Wednesday with great drink promos. You need pretty much a whole day to enjoy the Burrell art collection which boasts to be the world's 3rd biggest after the Frick and the Guggenheim. It certainly is just as impressive but costs nothing to enter.
