Zakopane Herberges  "Good Bye Lenin Hostel - Zakopane is referred to as a home by the staff and definitely feels like a home, albeit one with a few more house parties than average.
The Location
It's a bit difficult to get to since it's about a ten-minute minibus ride outside of town, but the directions from the hostel's brochure are very accurate and helpful. After being dropped off by the bus it's about a... "Hostel Stara Polana is located on Nowotarska Street. From the train or the bus station, walk along Kosiuszki Street until you reach Sienkiewicza Street. When you are at the end of Sienkiewicza Street, turn right towards Nowotarska street.
The hostel is a large villa -- typical Zakopane style, with wooden arches and paneling. Walk to the left to enter. You are greeted by friendly,... "First Class! - I visited Zakopane for skiing in March 2009 and stayed at Flamingo and I can't fault it. Everything is brand new and it has been decorated to a high standard. Flamingo is spotlessly clean, the beds are comfortable, there's individual lockers in the rooms (bring your own padlock), and there's a nice kitchen and common room area. There's terminals with free internet or you can use... "Don't stay here if you're looking for any degree of comfort. There are several major problems with this place. Firstly, it's miles out of the way, it's a good four miles so you'll have to catch the bus everyday which gets mighty tedious, especially four times or so times a day. The beds are made from foam and have plenty of fleas (we woke up with bites on our arms and legs). Although the dorm beds are remarkably cheap, about 8 USD, the atmosphere of the rooms is a bit depressing. The bunk beds are wire cots which sag like hamocks, and the mattresses are thin foam pads.
