Perugia is an Italian city famous for many different reasons. It's an university city with a lot of trendy bars, coffee shops, and restaurants. Perugia is a cosmopolitan city, due to the pull of foreigners to its big and well-known university. It also is a touristic destination, and, depending on the period of the year, there are plenty of festivals to attend, such the Umbria Jazz. Another interesting event held in October is the Eurochocolate; Perugia is a big chocolate producer, and during this festival, which attracts both adults and children, Perugia is full of stalls selling all kinds of delicious chocolates in any form and shape.

There are many sights in Perugia and they are mainly located in the historic center, which is on top of a hill. This area has a very limited car access -- the way to get there is either by local buses or by using the escalators built inside an old fortress (this would be the preferred journey to not miss seeing such fascinating stone structure).

Perugia is an important city for the medieval art and architecture. The main palaces, churches, squares, and buildings are in the historical center. The best way to discover those sites is by walking to enjoy the beautiful and magical atmosphere enhanced by the ancient surroundings.
