York Herberges    "York Backpackers is a friendly and attractive hostel near the edge of a fascinating city. It's a little hard to spot - look up for the sign, and it's across the street from Holy Trinity Church. Though there are no locks on room doors, and no lockers anywhere, access to the hostel is via guest pass only, and the door is guarded closely (after 10 pm you must wait for the night watchman to unlock the door). If you arrive early or depart late you can leave your bags in the unlocked laundry room...(North Yorkshire)  "To get to the YHA York Youth Hostel from the train station, you have about a mile walk along a paved path beside the river Ouze (that happens to be brown). The TIC in the train station will give you a free map (which is helpful because the YHA is off most travel-guide maps). It's a gorgeous walk, but poorly lit after dark, so if you're traveling solo, take an alternate route -- come up through town, make a left at Bootham bar, walk about one kilometer, then turn left at the sign to the YHA....Ace Hostel York is conveniently located near York railway Station and situated in Micklegate, the oldest part of York. This grand Georgian 1752 budget property has many impressive features including stone-flagged entrance hall, a grand carved sweeping staircase, panelled rooms, vaulted cellar and a fabulous Rococo ceiling featuring Shakespeare's head. If you are looking for a budget York hotel, then Ace Hotel York is the place to be.
