Schluchsee, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, is located in the southwest of the country, in the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald. It is a reservoir lake, which is a popular tourist destination in summer and winter. The closest bigger city is Freiburg, which is around fifty kilometres away from Schluchsee. With a surface area of approximately five square kilometres, it is the largest lake in the Black Forest (in German, "Schwarzwald"). Due to its high elevation of just under a thousand metres, the water remains comparatively cool even at the height of summer. Nevertheless, it is very popular with swimmers and sailors. Numerous hiking trails in the area welcome active tourists who want to relax and enjoy the authentic nature. In winter, skiing and cross-country skiing are available, as well.

In winter, skiing is possible in Fischbach, a small settlement around three kilometres away from the lake. It is more like a hill and suitable for children, beginners, and more experienced skiers who wants to have some fun. However, if you want to have more variety and more challenging slopes, go to Feldberg. With an elevation of just under one thousand five hundred metres, it is the biggest mountain in the Black Forest. Fourteen lifts, sixteen ski runs and more than thirty kilometres of slopes make experienced skiers and snowboarders happy, as well. If you visit the area in summer, you can enjoy various outdoor activities such as biking around the lake, hiking, sailing, and swimming. The shores of the lake are easy accessible from almost everywhere. For a perfect panorama, check out the viewing tower Riesenbühl. It is around thirty metres high and enables you to see most of the lake and even the Alps with a good visibility.
