Get to know Sen Monorom (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Sen Monorom.

Sen Monorom, in the east part of Cambodia, lies in the most remote area of the country. This is good and bad, but a visit to this town won't leave you disappointed. Around Sen Monorom you have perfect places for nature lovers, with a lot of wildlife to see.

Development hasn't arrived here, so be prepared to meet the "chunchiets" -– local people from this area that still live off farming and unfortunately don't have much health care. The landscapes are full of forested highlands mixed with grassy hills -- you will love the quietness and peacefulness. Sen Monorom is also the only place in the whole province where you can settle your base to explore the area, like the countryside, and most of all, the chunchiet villages.

Once you arrive in town and ask the locals where to go, they will point you directly to the Monorom Falls -- a peaceful place near the jungle, with water falling from ten meters high. It's within walking distance and you can refresh yourself with a swim when you get there, although jumping from the top of the waterfall can be dangerous. Also in this area are the amazing Bon Sraa Falls, but you will need to rent a motorbike for the forty-kilometer forest trail that leads you there –- the trail itself is also really nice itself. When you get there you will see the waterfall more than thirty meters high that flows to the jungle gorge.

You can arrive in Sen Monorom by bus, mostly from Phnom Pen -– it will take more than ten hours –- or by shared taxi that will be a little bit more expensive.

There aren't many hostels in Sen Monorom, but you can find a decent place to stay here.
