Itacaré is a tiny surf city located in a really special region in the southern Bahia state where the Brazilian coast started being discovered centuries ago. Most of the city still has structures of that time, including the first church and colonial mansions.
In this region, featuring extensive sand beaches and high coconut trees, there are rock formations that are unique within kilometers of the coast, allowing Itacaré to be one of the most famous Brazilian surf spots. Together with good waves and a stunning nature, you'll have a very easy time finding Itacaré hostels, bars, and restaurants; there is also a very special handmade eighty-five-percent-cocoa chocolate in this region known by Cocoa Coast.
The hostels in Itacaré are all well located since the town is very small and walking distances are short between the town and the five closer beaches named Praia da Concha, Resende, Tiririca, Costa, and Ribeira. Itacaré also has other six must-go beaches, some of them accessed by road and some only by trail. You can visit Prainha, Jeribucaçu, and Itacarézinho beaches as well.
The most promising street on the Itacaré tourist route is called Passarela da Vila, a new charming boardwalk that offers high quality hostels and restaurants in addition to diverse tourist commerce and services. It is the open gate to the Itacaré tourist area, so it is good to find a place to stay around and it is an easy task. Arriving at the bus station you can walk about five minutes until you reach this point and from there you will have all you need and want after traveling. A good idea is to stay in one of the first few hostels you find -- just choose one you like and then explore the area as you go and discover the other places. Just relax -- put down your bags, take a shower, and go out to Passarela da Vila and Pituba streets (where there is a tourist information office) and you will find your way.
