"To avoid - The hostel is in a very dirty and ugly area of the city. Twenty minutes walk from the central station, far from the center. The reception is not open twenty-four hours a day, actually there is no reception, but the owners sleeping in their dorms upstairs. No sign indicating the hostel, just a handwritten paper saying to call them on phone, if no one was there. What if coming from other country and have no phone active in Belgium? "Den Heksenketel Hostel is in a great location. It's right by Groen Plaats, and very easy to get to from the train station by either tram or underground. The area is very nice -- the cathedral is right there, and there are lots of cafes, restaurants, and bars. The hostel itself is full of character. There is a cosy bar on the ground floor, which was shut the night that we were there, but It looks like it would be a great place to have a famous Belgian beer. "I guess I didn't really stay in the hostel, but in its sister bed-and-breakfast, because the hostel was full, even though I had reserved a room in advance. But in the end, it didn't cost me extra, so I'm not complaining. The staff were nice, and the location was awesome. The only thing that was definitely a little weird is that I never actually found the address Pelgrimsstraat 9. "Although it may seem a little frightening, it is far from it! I will say that my first impression was not that great, but it could have been the fatigue from the 9-hour train ride prior to arriving. Anyhow, the people that run it are great and absolutely two of the friendliest people I'd met throughout my trip. If there is nothing to do (which is not often in this town full of bars and clubs) you can always hang with the two Aussies who run the place. "Dirty place!! - The rooms are dirty, the sheets had stains on them. The people who work there were calling us names (for NO good reason!) and saying stuff about us to other guests.
