"This is my favorite of all the hostels I've stayed at so far down south. The free Saturday barbecue was a pleasant surprise. So are their huge chickens. It has a really nice heritage feel, a great communal courtyard and some of the nicest people I've met so far. Though if any crazy Irish men offer to roast your apples covered in condensed milk, take my advice and politely decline. Definitely worth a stay or two. Great place to go.. beautiful gloucester trees, beautiful birds, amazing lavender and berry farm, delicious trout. — Anonymous

Take a trip on the tram or steam train and try and imagine how things were invented and the struggles of the olden days. If you get the chance check out the Cascades, check out the birds underneath the Gloucester tree which I believe to be the highest fire lookout tree in the World, yes you can climb 61 metres up it! If handy, read page 8 of Jack Kerouac's On the Road when you get to the top. My best mate Garth and the infamous serial pest Peter Hore refused to climb it with me proclaiming it The Ego Tree. :-) But I think how else can we silly humans appreciate the forest that we can't see through the trees?
