Guess what? Anglesea is also named and spelled Great Ocean Road - It is the same destination. Goodbye confusion.

Located along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia, Anglesea is a small town of just over 2,000 people. It is a common place for backpackers and travelers to stay while traveling on the Great Ocean Road, which is one of the most popular activities and road trips to do in Victoria. Anglesea was first known by the name of Swampy Creek until 1884, then it was named Anglesea River and later, in 1950, they arrived at Anglesea. Although there's not much other industry in the area, there is a coal mine.

Anglesea hostels, (and most of the towns on the Great Ocean Road), are a good value and cater to backpackers. There are plenty of operators who arrange Great Ocean Road trips, and the prices vary greatly, so it is highly recommended to do some research before booking. The Great Ocean Road is an exceptionally nice drive along the coastal highway and is highly recommended if you're staying at an Anglesea hostel.

Anglesea hostels are a good place to rest as the city is a quiet seaside town. The Anglesea golf course is particularly famous for having a LOT of kangaroos around, and is well worth the visit if you're not on a tight schedule. There are also some beaches if you're into surfing: Main Beach and Government Beach.

Tourists especially flock to the city from December through January, so booking your Anglesea hostel in advance is recommended if you're traveling during the high season. The Great Ocean Road runs straight through Anglesea and the town is particularly famous for arranging markets annually along the road.
